Truck goes into limp mode when towing but it’s inconsistent and doesn’t occur consistently, dash warning shown here. Dealer thinks it is the heat exchanger but have been waiting TWO MONTHS with no ETA on teh part. I’m not having any coolant leaks and the fluid levels are good so I am skeptical that it is the heat exchanger. Has anyone had this same issue? I should also add that I get a whole
Laundry list of warnings and error codes with the app as well. Oh and unrelated, but this same truck also blew the drive shaft at 40,000 km, to see im
Frustrated with this truck would be an under statement!

I would agree with your dealer. On the heat exchanger - there is an inlet and exit temperature sensor. One code the truck knows is an unreasonable difference between inlet and exhaust temperature. You’ll see in the attached photo - in which I have a code for exhaust heat exchanger valve failure - my coolant temp is fine, but my truck is still saying engine power reduced - presumably due to delta between exhaust heat exchanger inlet and exit temps. I waited almost 4 months for the part and the replacement heat exchanger fixed the issue

I never had a vehicle that I kept shorter than 10 years. This one might be a first deviation from that rule ?

If packing our trucks (or any vehicle) with technology results in a shorter term of ownership, it will be a fact across brands/models.
The Powerboost is just the current poster child for such a package of rolling tech.

But we should at least be honest and admit that played some roll in attracting the purchaser?

Any idea if the heat exchanger is the Same part on the 2021 and 2022 powerboost? If so, why are the parts not available when I assume they are still building new trucks that have this part?

There’s debate - it seems they might have switched part numbers, but either way the new part numbers are on national backorder with no ETA. Supply chain blah blah. See my thread on it here:
https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/thr...t-heat-exchanger-leak-megathread.8634/page-66

There is a tracker there dutifully maintained by @TN Rotty with people having the issue, build date, first ordered, replaced date, etc.

Does anyone know the shop process to complete this repair and what is actually required to do the repair? My part has finally arrived (ordered May 12) and now my dealership is giving me the run around about getting the repair done.

Are you saying that the new exhaust heat exchanger has arrived and they haven't installed it?

It's a basic driveway job. Really simple exhaust pipe replacement. 1 hour max?

Like @Snakebitten said, it's a quick fix. I took my truck in this morning and picked it up at lunch.

Gas engines with turbos tend to overheat when towing. If I was going to tow I would choose the V-8 engine and eliminate the turbos entirely. Most of the people who have reported problems were towing with the 2.7L engine.

Huh? :)

Been towing with 4 different Ecoboost trucks and don't have overheating issues. Besides, the exhaust heat exchanger leak is a factory defect resulting in losing coolant. Even a V8 needs coolant to stay in the coolant loop and not on the driveway.

And the 2.7 doesn't have an exhaust heat exchanger. It's a Hybrid component.
