I was refilling washer fluid in my 2022 Powerboost when I noticed the primary coolant tank is below the minimum. I peak under the truck and the exhaust heat exchanger is bone dry, so I figure I'll just refill it and keep an eye on it. I don't have time to deal with the dealership currently. Anyway, I check the owners manual and it tells me the coolant type is

Motorcraft® Yellow Prediluted Antifreeze/ Coolant(U.S.) Motorcraft® Yellow Prediluted Antifreeze/Coolant / Antigel/liquide de refroidissement prédilué jaune Motorcraft®(Canada) VC-13DL-G(U.S.) CVC-13DL-G(Canada) WSS-M97B57-A2

... how exactly does this translate to a coolant type when I go to an auto parts store? Or should I just go get some coolant from the dealership parts counter?

Thanks!

I recommend you go to your local Ford dealer’s Parts Department and purchase one gallon of the genuine Ford Motorcraft VC-13DLG yellow prediluted coolant. Cannot go wrong with what the factory recommends.

A lot of owners (myself included) have had the coolant run a little low. I have not seen any posts as to why this happens.

Anyhow, I filled it back up with the Motorcraft yellow. I was able to buy it at O’Reilly’s right down from my house.

Not uncommon for the primary tank coolant to discolor and need some tops off over time.

Now that I work from home and drive next to nothing for miles my service schedule will be once a year. The oil mileage will be about 3000 miles but the oil will a year old.

When is the best time to check the coolant levels. Truck cold or warmed up.

My routine is to check all the fluids in our vehicles Sat or Sun mornings early after they've been sitting all night with a cup of coffee before starting yard work once or twice a month just out of habit. The only time I ever really check under the hood hot is if/when a vehicle drives weird, hear noises, or the IC throws errors.

Go to a Ford dealer for the coolant, I understand the coolant type is specific to hybrids. Also, a few people on the forum have had a leaking secondary coolant. For me, there was a leak in some aux coolant pipe near the heat exchanger. I'd take it to a dealer to find the leak.

Always best with a partial fill to add the same formulation. While there may be other coolants compatible with the vehicle the safe interaction between 2 compatible coolants is not guaranteed.

Thanks, guys. I got the Ford fluid from the dealership. I guess I'm just used to working on my BMW where plenty of aftermarket manufacturers can be OE for the fluid, ie pentosin.

No, the coolant is not specific to hybrids.
