So I don't have my truck yet but it's on it's way. How do you know if the system is up to date?
If you are talking about just Sync, you can look at the version your truck is running and then compare on the forum.

If you are talking about the other 40+ modules in the truck (depending on trim/options), you can post your VIN on the VIN Lookup thread, and someone with a current license will check for you.

It's a collaborative affair here on the forum. :)

If it is a 2023, it will come with the latest software on it already. If there is an update due, it may be this one or one of the other ones that were recently released. If that is the case, you should not be concerned as it seems these string of 4.2.x updates are being handed out left and right.

Hard to say. We are two model years out. Had to expect the support to taper off eventually. For now, maybe Ford is just relying more heavily on the OTA system. Nothing new has hit FDRS for the ‘21s since early December. But many ‘21 owners still got PU 1007, 1009 and 1010 OTA this year and just received an email promising a Sync update OTA. Except possibly for 1010, these updates haven’t made it to FDRS, at least not yet.

So my Job2 2022 just recently, a few days ago, had an APIM update made available in FDRS.

So yes, my 2022, which this very instant is running exactly the same version of Sync as an uptodate Job1 2021 truck is running, could be updated and then be a few days ahead.

But it's just a few days, at this point.
Nobody has identified specifically what the new version brings to the truck, so I wouldn't even experience an advantage. And there's no physical hardware reason for the 2021 to not be a candidate for the ambiguous upgrade.

It's not like the 2021 has legacy hardware compared to the 2022. So in my way of looking at it, anyone with a 2021 should be optimistic about anything that a 2022 qualifies for.

In error unless ford is sending out the 15” screen OTA.

Where do these messages pop up ? I finally am up to date so I would assume I should be getting this ?
Not really.....at least not yet. These string of 4.2.x updates have only been sent to 2022/2023 truck thus far.

Or accurate in substance if, as I suspect, the “A” in 4A was a typo.

So how does this make CarPlay better. What does it actually do in this update?
It removes the awkward black border around the rounded CarPlay window. That background now changes to match light/dark theme of sync and CarPlay
