I have a 25 501a lariat that unfortunately doesn’t have any ambient lighting other than 2 from the over head console and the single light at the rear of the floor console. I didn’t realize when I got the truck that 502a was required for all the other ambient lights. For me, I’d really only like to add front footwell lights to be happy.

I know there are some excellent threads out there on how to add more stock ambient lights but the solutions are somewhat involved and require FORScan, which I’m not really interested in messing around with.

My plan is to purchase the 2 factory footwell lights and power them from the rear ambient light. That way the color matches, they turn on and off like factory and I don’t have to mess with FORScan.

I was thinking I could just tap the one power wire from the existing light, then ground the footwell lights separately to the cab.

Does this sound like a viable option? Does anyone know how I could access the wires for the rear light on the back of the floor console?

Thanks!

Not a direct answer to your question, but I have a '25 501a also and did all four footwells using an inexpensive LED strand from Amazon, run to the outlet in my center console.

Amazon lights are HERE (you can set to any color, but I wanted to match the blue controls in the truck)

Those two LED stripes down the side of my center console are from f150leds.com [link to lights], LED console Accent Lighting, color Aqua. Another pic:

All the wiring is tucked away in my center console storage area using a USB C Male to 12V Cigarette Lighter Socket Adapter and Cigarette Lighter Male Plug with Leads, which has an on/off switch, though I always leave mine on.

Like I said, not an answer to your question, but maybe a solution to your problem? Good luck!

That all looks great and is something to consider for sure.

If you always have the Cigarette Lighter Male Plug turned on, when do the lights turn on and off?

Thanks

Just when car is shut down--the USB port it's drawing from is a switched plug. I leave them on in daytime even though can't see them because I don't want to forget to turn them on in the evening!

Got it. So they’re on when the truck is on (ACC or actually running) and then off as the truck turns off.

I now have a new idea. Purchase the stock lights and power them from the Cigarette Lighter Male Plug with Leads that you referenced.

It’s a little hacky but I think it will work. I’ll lose the lights turning on as the door opens like the existing rear ambient light does, but I’ll have the matching ice blue OEM color. I’ll also loose the ability to adjust brightness but not too concerned with that.

Open to hear any feedback on that approach.

I don't know anything about the factory lights, but as long as they're 12 volts I'm sure that it'll work. But those Amazon lights are only $16 and they have brightness adjustment (as well as sync with music beat and change colors, neither of which I will ever use now that I have the color I want). 😉. On that note, actually do you think mine aren't quite "icy" enough. I might change them if not.
