Try sliding something off the bed of the truck without knocking the plastic cover off the top of the tailgate, I've done it once too many and now I"m without. I also have the Issue with a random alarm going off at night, I read that you need to disarm the interior sensor.

the plastic on the tailgate is the reason I did not get the step. I’m opting to get rear step on the truck bumper. i think the step without the plastic might be better. I prefer whole truck bed to be sprayed including tail gate. Better durability.

I have the drop in liner in mine and the sole reason for it is the ease of sliding stuff in and out—-oh, and for dent control in the bed.
the tailgate portion of the liner is pretty flush with that plastic cap, and then it is also raised well above the the cap. Not likely I will have an inadvertent cap removal incident.

I haven't had an issue with mine, and I'm in and out of the bed with tools, materials, etc sliding in and out constantly. I have thought that the little strip seems flimsy, but nothing's ripped off yet.. Now I'll be more cautious

Funny, I totally agree on both accounts. I just ordered a plastic cap from a non step tailgate that I’m gonna modify to put on mine. Pulling the step out and setting it aside to reinstall just before trading the truck in. Every one of those I see seems to be broken, whoever designed that step is an idiot. Not to mention what the road salt in this area will do to the internal components over a couple winters...

as for the alarm, mine was going off due to it thinking the hood was being opened. I unplugged the sensor in the hood latch and other than it telling me the hood is ajar every time I start the truck it seems o work fine and no more 3am alarms.
