For all Powerboost buyers...I drove home a 2021 Platinum Powerboost a week ago tomorrow. With only a weeks worth of driving, I love the truck! Just curious if anyone hears a whining noise when the truck is operating in electric mode? The noise I hear seems to be the most apparent when decelerating or coming to a stop. While not severe and definitely not that noticeable when radio is on, it is still annoying. I drove a Powerboost back in February when I originally started looking for a truck and don’t recall hearing that noise. I guess I would expect the truck driving in electric mode would be more quiet than in gas mode.

yup, it's the electric motor. no idea why it's so loud.

seems to me with that loud of an electric motor there is no need for the backup chimes

It is absolutely not the motor if it's loud, it would be the speaker that projects sound under 30 MPH to warn pedestrians. I have yet to really hear the motor, but given where it's located it should be fairly tough to hear.

I can't anything like that from inside with the radio off, I could barley hear something when I roll the window down.

If that's a speaker they put one hell of a good quality speaker in there to put out a sound that rich. I think it really is just the motor; you can hear the sound relatively equally well from all around the front of the truck, unlike the reverse bell which is distinctly in the front driver side.

There are a few electric sounds to hear:
* The motor itself (which I can usually hear while driving next to a fence or something, It's not really loud enough to warn anyone.)
* The brakes -- they definitely have a whirrrr to them, and easy to reproduce. Open your window while parked and step on the brakes. You'll get the whirr as they engage.
* The AC. There's another motor (or multipurposing of the electric motor?) to run the AC. Normally I can hear a whirr related to that which increases in intensity a bit depending on the AC load. (Though the ultra hot weather in Seattle yesterday (109 at my place), I remote started the truck to have it cool down for a grocery trip and the AC sound was so loud I couldn't hear ANY of the other electric noises. I could barely hear the ICE when it started up.)

This is the pedestrian alert system on the hybrid trucks. It makes a pump like sound that changes with your speed up to 22 MPH. It is also the same speaker for the reverse noise.
