I have not looked into this but is it possible to deploy the boards and then disconnect the motors while in the down position?
Might achieve your desire for free + 10 minutes.... ?

Thats not a terrible suggestion. Definitely worth looking into. I think I still like the look of the standard fixed boards over the possibility of power boards permanently set in the down position.. BUT, your idea is a hell of a lot cheaper and something I will consider as a solution. Thank you.

"one more thing that could malfunction." And they do, or mine do at least. They will retract at the wrong time on occasion, or not deploy on the passenger side properly every time.
That is very concerning to hear..

My last three trucks have had power running boards and have no problem with them. I like them because it is a lower step-in height than the fixed boards. Also, I drive some pretty rough trails when hunting and don't have to worry about ripping off a fixed board, these are tucked in out of the way. As far as leaving them deployed, all my trucks have had a vehicle setting where I can set them to Auto - where they will deploy when a door is opened, Closed - where they will not deploy., and Out - they will stay out. What I don't like about the '24 running boards on my KR is that they both deploy when any door is opened. On my previous two trucks, only the running board on the side where a door was opened would deploy. I have some tight parking in my garage and have to allow room on the passenger side for that running board to deploy, even though I am only exiting out the driver side. I'd recommend some front mud flaps to keep the running board surface clean from snow and mud.

Thank you. Thats some great information!

I have a '24 Platinum PB and the opening and closing was driving me crazy. The would deploy when I exited from the driver side and retract before I could get to the passenger door only for them to deploy again. Talk about wear and tear. I have since changed the setting so it isn't as bad but I wish they could just stay deployed unless I manually retract them.

Isn't there a setting that you can select to have them out or deployed all the time? I thought for sure my 2015 had that.

IF you have them set to "Auto", there is also an "Auto Timer" setting. Regular - they will stay open for 25 seconds after a door is closed. Extended - they will stay open for up to 5 minutes.

If you want to swap, let me know. I have a tryck I am about to pickup that has fixed and I’d like power.
My order is fairly new. So with the way ive heard some factory orders go it could end up being a very long time before I take possession of the truck..

My current 2022 platinum and my 2015 Platinum have that setting also but they never really worked. I thought it was kind of a useless setting. You set it "out" and they pop out but as soon as you start driving they retract back in.

Do they come back out when you stop? I set mine to out when I wash the truck so I can wash them. They stay out the entire time, then I set back to auto. Have never tried the Out setting while driving. I assume a little better gas milage when they are in?

Oh I thought you were saying you set to out to stay out... I just kick the little button on the steps themselves if I ever want them to come out and stay, (for washing, etc).

Yes it is covered with the extended warranty. The hinges all look as good as new and they move in and out with no issues but the motors keep running after they are fully up or down for 3 or 4 seconds. Sometimes they would come back down and then return up before the motor would stop running.
Interesting. Mine are doing that as well. I'm waiting for them to shit the bed completely as I have a $100 deductible.

It's nice to only pay $100 and Ford decides to put new running boards on the truck that are $1259.30 each side plus labor.
