To all our Platinum PB owners...

When it comes to the power-deployable running boards, has anyone ever had those removed and replaced them with a fixed style? Is this even possible without compromising anything else?

Anything is possible - these trucks are giant Lego bricks. You can pretty much change anything about them, with some elbow grease and a bit of trickery.

I like my fixed running boards though.. any car that tries to door dig me, gets the boards. ?

Yes. I have a Platinum on order but would prefer to have fixed RBs.

I'm assuming you can and would have also gone the fixed route. However I really do like how much lower they go vs fixed boards but will it be worth the difference if they have to be fixed? They have already been fluid filmed on the hinges.

I'll for sure see how I like the power RBs.. But was just a thought I was thinking about if I end up not liking that style as much. Plus, its just one more thing that could malfunction.

I'll for sure see how I like the power RBs.. But was just a thought I was thinking about if I end up not liking that style as much. Plus, its just one more thing that could malfunction.

My truck is at the dealership for malfunctioning running boards and they said they are replacing both sides because the motors are bad with only 45,000 miles.

Thats really shitty. Did you have any extended warranty plan that is covering that? Or what is it costing you if not?

I'd recommend doing the Fluid Film application that is in the video above after the replacements are done.

Yes it is covered with the extended warranty. The hinges all look as good as new and they move in and out with no issues but the motors keep running after they are fully up or down for 3 or 4 seconds. Sometimes they would come back down and then return up before the motor would stop running.

Both mine were replaced on my 2015 Plat at about 115k. Fully covered and replaced for free cuz I had extended warranty.
If your (OP) concern is "another failing part" just get the extended warranty.

It is foolish not to get the extended warranty with vehicles these days and the cost of repair parts. It will pay for itself in no time with the amount of issues these trucks have.

I definitely plan on getting an ESP on this truck. But my thoughts on possibly considering swapping out power boards for fixed ones also has to do with the look of the truck. I think I like the look of fixed boards on a truck.. But after owning it for a period of time, i'll have a better idea.

I have not looked into this but is it possible to deploy the boards and then disconnect the motors while in the down position?
Might achieve your desire for free + 10 minutes.... ?

"one more thing that could malfunction." And they do, or mine do at least. They will retract at the wrong time on occasion, or not deploy on the passenger side properly every time.
