Thanks for all the info everyone, I'm far from a truck/car guy and I've learned a ton on this site so far. @Snakebitten appreciate the info, lots of good stuff to dig into should I feel the need to upgrade once I'm pushing weight closer to payload max.

@EricR , I think you were getting me (OP) mixed up with @KBKEITH, but in any case thanks for the insight, appreciate you bringing it back to more digestible information for me ha!

Your points are all correct, I'm not towing and was totally content with my totally stock tacoma carrying virtually the same stuff. Only complaint was a general lack of power going up hills and whatnot, but never really bothered me too much. After a few weeks with this it's pretty apparent this engine is in an entirely different class than the tacoma, which I didn't expect (hence my payload concern with a heavy base truck). I don't know if it's the 10 speed or turbos or what, but it's making cruising up and down the canyons here in Salt Lake feel so cruiser comparatively (plus gas milage is substantially better). Once I get it all loaded up with the topper, etc we'll see if I feel different and want to try and do something about it, but for now as you said, I'm just going to keep enjoying it.

Thanks All!

I'm with 780. You are conflating different ratings, because Ford has different ways of measuring.

For instance, The Trailer Towing Selector says

But the payload sticker says
1664492108623.png

I had to weight my truck bringing it in from out of state, so I can verify that the payload is not with any persons in the car, but it is with a full tank of gas and all fluids (which is also stated, but buried in the spec documents)

Tare weight (7 gal gas [42 lbs], running board brackets only, no spare/jack)4940
29 gal gas174
Running boards (no brackets)23.5
Jack + kit10.5
Spare tire61
Base Curb Weight5209

GVWR 7150 lbs - 5209 lbs base weight = 1941 lbs payload.

Sticker says 1948.
I'm chiming in here with my experience too. Bringing the truck into CA from Iowa, I had to get it weighed for registration too. My 2022 max tow PowerBoost Platinum with FX4, moon roof, 7.2kVa, bedliner, full fuel tank, Talon diff/cat skid plate (about 38 lbs), some stuff in the truck (about 40 lbs, wasn't expecting to have to weigh it that day) weighed in at just under 6,200 lbs without anyone in it.

Max gross weight is 7350. My payload sticker says 1271 lbs of max payload.

I just purchased a slide-in fully composite trailer for my 2023 F150 Lariat 4x4 with a 6.5 bed. My payload capacity is 1708 and I'm likely going to exceed it when the camper build is finished Spring 2025. All the forums I've read say you can't increase payload capacity which is true. However, in the real world I'm seeing that people do it all the time. In my case I'm going to add High Load rated tires, Airbags, and a sway bar to my rig to level out the truck and improve handling so it's safe. I've always tent camped out of my trucks and this is a huge and welcome step up for me. If anyone has any thoughts I'd welcome them. Ultimately, if I have to upgrade to a F250 I will but that's a big change that I'd prefer not to do. Let me know thoughts based on experience! Thanks

Keep us posted on how much it finally builds out to weigh, and what all you modify on the truck to get it to ride good enough for you.

Will do. Have you experience with this?

No sir. I mean not exactly. But I have indeed done the necessary suspension upgrades on a pickup truck to address its "prowess" at managing a healthy Payload burden, if you know what I mean. (pushing limits)

I have also often wondered just how much a slide in camper could be lightened up with meticulous efforts.

Keep in mind that if you upgrade the load carrying of the springs, etc, you need to look at the load carrying of the axle itself.

I hear ya. If it comes to that I'll likely upgrade to an F250 because one thing leads to another. I'm all about trying to stay within the mfg specs.
