Parking Brake randomly engaged while in drive?!?

Had a strange and concerning incident yesterday and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar or had any ideas. I was in a parking lot, slowly making a u turn. It was on a decently steep grade, and as I completed the turn the parking brake randomly engaged. I was going slow so it wasn't a huge deal but it locked the wheels and I very briefly skidded.

I'd guess it had something to do with the grade I was on as I know the brake will automatically engage when parking on a slope, but very concerning to me that it could turn itself on while the truck is in drive.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any way to figure out why this happened?

Did you have your recall completed for the e-brake wire issue on the axle?

That’s a good thought. I did have the recall completed and the only recall showing for me right now is the axle bolts. However that’s a good idea to check to make sure it looks ok.

I have a related issue that started up a few weeks ago. Every morning, when I first start up the truck, the parking brake is engaged. I do not get the same during the course of the day. The truck is parked on a level surface. Could this be affected by battery SOC? The rear axle wiring harness recall was performed by the dealer in months ago.

Just checked and the wiring looks good to me. I can see the tape wrap on the driver side. Maybe it was worn prior to recall and they just covered it? Or maybe this is something altogether different?

Brake indicator has reappeared. Adding it to the list I’ve started to compile for the dealer (before the original warranty expires.)
