Well, threw my first CEL at just over 4,000 miles. Anybody have this? Threw 3 of the same codes.

P0456 - Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected

Anybody had this one? Called Ford and was told it would be a month to get it in. Supposed to be going up north next weekend pulling my trailer.

Go to the gas pump and stick the nozzle in and out of the fuel tank a few times. The capless fuel systems are notorious for not sealing. Just clear code and if it comes back schedule an appointment. Being that it’s a small leak it won’t cause any drivability concerns.

Agreed with the capless fuel tank. I used to get this a lot on my daughter's truck when she first started driving and would leave the gas cap off. Then when she got the one with the capless it would do it from time to time and always fix itself. Hope that is all it is.

Just got this today on my ‘21 with 7k. I’m going to try the nozzle trick and see what it does. May have to see if I can get it cleared after.

Have that same code on my 98 k1500.
Been there for years
Light burned out long ago, but when I replaced the dash I replaced bulbs—-damn light still on, same code.

My 20 Ranger would do this every so often. More so after driving down dirt roads. To resolve it I'd take a clean damp shop rag and wipe the flap and inside lip of the filler neck where they seal to clear any debris that was keeping it from forming a proper seal. Then got this OBD scanner module to use the Car Scanner app on my iPhone to clear the code if it didn't clear on it's own.

Also had to do this on my father-in-law's '16 F150 a couple times too since it has the flap system as well. Before doing it for him he had taken it in several times and they couldn't ever find the cause of the issue. Now about once a month he wipes the filler flap assembly off and hasn't had the code return since.

I put the nozzle in and out a few times and wiped the inner part of the flap. Light didn’t clear on its own so manually cleared the code. I’ll hope it doesn’t come back.

light won’t clear for many key cycles, so if you want it off, you have to clear it
