Does the vane type pump used in this engine put out a pulsing output? The old gerotor type pump put out a pretty smooth pressure pattern. As an aside, now that I know the upper pressure is on the order of 100#... I'm really glad I chose to use armored hose in my remote setup. Its rating is 1000# operating pressure with 3000# burst pressure.

New question: What is the high end of system pressure? My gauge goes up to 100#, but I have the sense that system pressure goes above that, at least until the oil is thoroughly warmed up. Wondering if I should split for a gauge that goes to 120#.

The PID version of the oil pressure has never topped out beyond 2 digits to the left of the decimal.

Fresh oil. Normal temps. High load.
It dances between low 70's<>80's
Will tickle the high 60's a split second, but I have never seen the 80's not be the ceiling. If I had to guess at what a weighted/average would be for the high pressure stage, it'd be ~75psi

In the previous generation 3.5 Ecoboost I would guess ~65psi.

But this is all digital and I honestly have no idea what parameters the pcm is using to calculate. IF it's a pure calculated value?

Well, I see 98# not warmed up... After driving and hour or so, it'll decline to about 80#. The low pressure setting seems rock solid at about 45#. In high pressure mode I get a buzzing sound. No evidence of foaming on dipstick, no variation in pressure... What I think is going on is the filter adapter is hard mounted to the firewall and I suspect it is sending vibrations into the people tank... But then why would the oil passing thru the filter be causing vibrations of some kind?

Who knows? Cavitation due to particular design / install variable? ?‍♂

Have thought about cavitation, saw that on Navy pumps years ago. That would imply a restriction in the pump suction line or a very low pan level. Nothing changed internal to the engine. Have slowly increased level in pan since install of remote filter (that did increase system volume by a quart). My current inference is that it was always there and unnoticed until the firewall mounting provided a sound path previously unavailable. Hm-m-m...

I had the exact same thing happen on a 1994 5.2 Jeep Grand Cherokee when I mounted a remote filter to the frame rail on the uni-body. All of a sudden, I had a high-pitched whine that I never heard before. Turned out it was pulses from the oil pump being transferred to the body through the stiff pressure hoses I used for the remote filter.

Well, how about that! I used wire braid hose and the remote filter adapter is mounted to the firewall. Interestingly the noise only occurs when the high pressure setting kicks in. Appreciate your insight. Many thanks...

I think we often underestimate the engineering effort (resources/time) spent by manufacturers to reduce NVH on vehicles.
So many threads on forums regarding a vibration, a sound,.........

If you have one that is quiet and smooth and nothing getting your attention, it's kinda remarkable.

Sound quieting on a sub is a big deal. The many paths that can take machinery noise to ocean are legion and the work required to find them and get rid of them is extensive... In this case I wasn't going to write it off to such a thing until other potential problems were done away with... :)
