I think it's going to work. :)
Your optimism paid off. It worked and I was seeing about 40 PSI at idle and a stab of about 3/4 throttle it was about 72 PSI.

Displaying it within Android Auto seemed slow and it would freeze up sometimes. I may look for a cheap used Android so I can just use that as a display.

Your low/high pressures sound right. Especially for a coldstart.

And yeah, while the OBDlink/Android Auto project is very promising for the future, in its infancy it's a very beta experience. I'm still using a dedicated (no-Sim) Android smartphone, strategically placed in my windshield field of view.
