I typically lock my key in the car using the keypad on the door. I have never had an issue with this, until now! The other day I'm out with the family and lock my key in the car. We go to leave and I pre-start the car through the app and unlocked the doors, but the doors didn't actually unlock. I turned off the truck and tried to unlock the doors again, no luck.

I continued to try to use the keypad and the app, but the doors wouldn't unlock. I could see the car was responding to both the keypad and the app. The side mirrors would open & close as expected each time I tried. I could also see the headlights flash each time I locked and unlocked the door. But no matter what, the actual doors would not unlock.

I ended up taking a Lyft home to get the spare key and unlocked the car. I tried replicating the issue but could not. After getting in, everything worked as expected and has worked fine for the last few weeks.

What a hassle! And now I am terrified to lock my key in the car in case it happens again and I'm further from home.

Has anyone had this issue? Did I get just experience a one off? I cant figure out what would cause the car to respond to the unlock, but not actually unlock the doors. Some type of security feature? Unfortunately, this has ruined my trust in locking the key in the car - which I LOVED to do.

Well that stinks.....got me on this one and curious what others might chime in, I might need to try some testing..... but I use that odd key (https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/whats-this-key-for.3281/post-176296) in situations like this as a backup to the keypad ....regardless, happy you were able to get in.

Some people have been getting the DDM (Driver’s Door Module) and PDM (Passenger Door Module) update OTA lately which has to do with door locks and windows. Maybe yours was getting that update at that moment and had you locked out figuratively and literally???

Haven't had this issue but I did have some strange things happen with the door locks that I actually figured out was due to one of the doors being not quite closed all the way. Couldn't really tell by looking at it but problem solved after giving the open door a sharp shove to close it. Problem was solved. Just a thought.

Hi bud, I had the same issue, locked my keys in the truck, went for a 4 hour hike, got back, tried to open the door using the keypad and couldn't, than I tried the app, same result.
But, just before I was about to walk away and start working out a plan to getting the spare at home, which was 36 miles away, I noticed that the infotainment screen had come on, than a message showing vehicle will be ready at 11:25 am, I had a quick glance down at my wrist watch and the time was 11:21am.
Long story short, the vehicle was doing an over the air software update and, I didn't know this at that time, but after some research, I discovered that my 2023 PB was set automatically to carry out software updates at any day of the week at 11:15 am, and if there was an update that needed installing and the vehicle was locked and parked, it would install or update the software for whichever computer module that had the latest software. Go into your infotainment screen, look for software update, go into it, and you will see what days and times it's set to automatically do software updates, I left mine still in auto - mode, but changed the time from 11:25 am to 23:55hrs and the day's, I changed as well from 7 days a week to now just 3 day's a week. I've never had the same problem again, and it's been just over 2 years now, and I still lock my keys in my truck. Hope this helps.
