On the second day of my 3 week road trip my 2022 Powerboost with 15K miles died on I-70 outside of Moab. It went into limp mode and displayed "Stop safely now". It was 107 degrees when it died. Would run really rough and then die when pushing the accelerator. Eventually it would not start and not even come out of park. Had it towed to Performance Ford of Moab (huge mistake). After a few days I rented a Jeep (Ford will be paying for it) and continued my vacation. Performance Ford of Moab did not have it figured out when I got back 2 weeks later and say it needs an in-tank fuel pump (PL3Z9H307B) which is on nationwide backorder with no ETA. The parts manager at Performance Ford of Moab told me that this is the same part used in 2023 trucks with the Ecoboost V6 not just the Powerboost. So if Ford is building trucks with these, but won't send one to a customer, what does that say about Ford? Ford customer care says they cannot contact anyone at the factory even to ask about this. If Performance Ford of Moab is right, then if a Powerboost's high voltage hybrid battery drops below a certain level, the truck will never work again until it is charged, and they can't run any diagnostics, which required them to obtain a special battery charger, which took them and Ford engineers almost 2 weeks to figure out the charger had to be updated to be able to charge the Powerboost battery. Bottom line, no truck now for almost 5 weeks, no ETA on getting it fixed. I rented a U-Haul truck to get my motorcycle and gear back home and Ford Customer Care will have to ship my truck back home when finally fixed.

I've had my Powerboost for almost a year now, and this is the first big issue I've had. I have had numerous small issues like others report. I have had the super loud thunder feedback issue with the B&O stereo twice. Once when towing my boat I got a message about motor coolant over temperature even while the temperature gauge was showing normal. Overall, I really like the Powerboost, but I bought it for boondocking with the generator, and now I'm not confident at all about its reliability. I did see that one owner said that in a similar situation, Ford gave them a 75,000 mile extended warranty so I'll be checking on that. I'm going to be submitting receipts to Ford Customer Care for car rental, hotels and towing totaling almost $7000. Sure would have been a lot cheaper to pull a fuel pump from the assembly line and ship it to the dealer.

If anyone can help, please chime in! Especially interested in possible design flaws in the Powerboost that would make the truck totally unusable if the hybrid battery fails or gets too low on charge. Thanks in advance.
Good afternoon. Can you please send over a message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer? I would like to look into your truck's loss of power on my end.

If the whole escapade started with a failed fuel pump, and in fact it is a failed fuel pump, then it's not a Powerboost issue at all.

And if you can't get a replacement fuel pump, for what reason, that would sideline every make/model vehicle that requires a fuel pump.

Losing faith in the reliability of a vehicle because of a failed fuel pump would be a bit of overreaction.

Losing faith in the ability of a Ford Service Department to provide professional expertise, or Ford's supply chain handling, does have merit though. Both are doing injury to the brand.

The truck is awesome.
The support of the truck, not so much.

and if its just a fuel pump
sad state if that little part that is used in at least 6 models of ford and lincoln is unavailable..that seems weird to no end

My view as well. Job 1 at Ford, with these supply chain issues, is to keep the line running at all costs. That includes the "cost" of supporting customers in the field who need parts. I understand the economic arguments. No cash flows when you send a part to a customer under warranty and not build a new truck. Cash flows when the new truck comes off the line. But they are destroying the franchise with these decisions. In the end we will all try to migrate to a manufacturer that supports the product that they build. I would be looking right now if there was a worthy competitor having the awesome capability of the PowerBoost. Right now I am stuck.

I want SO BAD for the competition to compete for the Powerboost niche.
So that it would no longer be so much a niche, as well as hold Ford's feet to the fire a bit

Your wish my be coming true except the competition may be from Ford. Ford has announced there is a new Powerboost version coming in 2024. That is not rumor. It will be introduced at the Detroit Autoshow in September. The question is what will be the capability of that new PowerBoost?

Nobody knows but Ford. Some credible rumors circulating that this new PowerBoost may be a plug in hybrid with a larger battery. Something to fill the gap between the current PowerBoost and the Lightning. If this is true and there is no competition, I may have to buy yet another PowerBoost.

I don't know if I've seen a credible source for the rumor of it being a plug in.
I have seen rumors that it might be a second offering of a Hybrid F150.
That's a bit different language than it's a second version of the current Powerboost.

Regardless, whatever it is, I'm thrilled that the success of the Powerboost has Ford expanding/developing the Hybrid concept further.

Plugin or not, a bigger battery is all good, in my book. It'd get my attention.

Ford recently made changes to the Lightning where you will not need the truck in "Ready mode" to use ProPower.
I'd love the equivalent of that in the Powerboost. Nothing on except what's necessary. In other words, the camping mode we've wished for?

Yes, but for the same PPoB capability as the Lightning (no ready mode) we need a much bigger battery. 1.5 kWh held to only 63% SOC will not last long camping.

True. Didn't mean apples/apples equivalent. :)

Just the concept that the truck doesn't need to be able to support anything beyond ProPower needs.

No instrument cluster or Sync screen, for example.

maybe change the SOC levels as well
i am very keen on the hybrid pb and the maverick simply because of what CAN BE
mav has spot for one more battery.

the f150 could easily add a second or larger battery. might be moving to a f250 frame to keep payload. ??????
short box but long bed frame to lay in second battery across frame behind cab? maybe battery in bed sidewalls of lost space between the humps?

we are a family that could take advantage of a pb that could stay in the electric mode for our mostly weekly driving( 40- 60 miles each week at 65 mph) with the option to cruise 600 miles on ice or combination.
that would fit our bill 100%

i watch patiently and read and listen to our resident/s PB whisperers here

VIN 1FTFW1ED8NFB50940 if anyone can help.

I agree the fuel pump is not strictly a Powerboost issue, but the issues with the hybrid battery causing problems with diagnostics is. Not to mention all the other weird electrical issues. It may be that all new Ford trucks have these problems.
