do you know if this adapter also works for FDRS or should I really look at the mongoose?
It does not work for FDRS. Many have tried finding one, but there really is no effective, cheaper solution (that is currently available from a reputable manufacturer) for FDRS than the Mongoose.

Interestingly Forscan also has the pid, but I have no intention of using a laptop as a monitoring device.
Have you tried FORScan Lite on an iPhone to see if you can get an oil pressure PID without having to use a laptop as a display? It might be a solution to nGauge. I know you are using android, but a cheap refurbished iPhone dedicated to monitoring could be a possibility. When I have the chance, I might take a look. I have Lite and an MX+.

I'm not saying there aren't cheaper ones that MIGHT get the job done, but the co$t of the Obdlink MX+ is representative of its quality, speed, range.....

I have both the MX+ (Bluetooth) and their EX for Forscan (USB)

They are the real deal and their refresh rate is outstanding.

Warning, can be addictive :)
ODBLink…duur…should have recognized the name from ordering their forescan device. Didn’t get the clue until you mentioned it LOL

Thanks again.

@FrankThompson thanks for the added detail on the plus

You just named another OBD adapter in the toolbox. (As well as the VCX-nano I was an early adopter of the FDRS thread. Like day 1)

FDRS is writing firmware to our brand spanking new ex$pensive trucks. There's no getting around that Mongoose for such a critical task.

So yea, a modern roll around toolbox is going to have 1 drawer for OBD tools :)
I got a mess of them in order to work on all my kids cars/trucks.

I keep all 3 mainstream apps on the Android.

I was really excited about Forscan Lite being a no brainer for this project, since Forscan has such amazing support on the Gen14 F150!

Alas, it's not Forscan Lite's strength. It's a great mobile scanner and I have nothing negative to say about it. I just was a little disappointed they didn't include in it all the PIDs they include in Windows.

Maybe dumb question - if I have the Mongoose for FDRS, can I use it for Forscan or do I need a different adapter? :)

Not a dumb question at all.
The Mongoose will replace a lot of the cheaper OBD adapters that you might have for your Ford/Lincoln/Mercury/Mazda

It is super fast and Forscan LOVES it
And when you hold it in your hands and get a good look at it, it's professional grade materials and build quality. Even the cable itself is sturdy and feels like it would last many years

Hard qualities to come by these days for sure.

Me thinks someone might be getting some Fordpass points for each unit sold!

j/k ;)

Good to know, certainly would have made me lean that way had I know before getting the Forscan specific cable.

even if I got the mongoose, I like the obdLink MX because it's BT and I can do simple things with Forscan and/or my phone without having to have a cable tethering me to the truck. I just keep it plugged in all the time.

I can see that - I'm more interested in reading and writing software updates and mods. I read some of you guys with the PIDs and that sounds awesome, but I'll be okay with a wired connection!

Lol
I get accused of several different assumed corporate relationships on this forum. And I'm never offended. :)

I just chalk it up to folks thinking there has to be a hitch for me to be having as much fun as I am. Nope. Just old. Too worn out and not enough energy to waste any of it.

not enough energy
I'd argue that at 3K+ posts you've still got a lot of energy :)

I have young kids, limits the amount of time I can go off and tinker. :p

By profession, I manage a global network 24/7/365, so I'm sitting in front of multiple screens at the office, on the road, or even in the RV. (I'm a full time RV'r. Been camping everyday ~8 years running)

So..... My postcount is actually just evidence that I'm doing something while I monitor the network. Or put another way, I'm technically a fireman waiting for an alarm to go off occasionally. So between alarms I'm reading, listening to Audible (bookworm all my life) and rambling about F150's, Miatas, and Porsches.

That’s unfortunate. But at least you can get it on Android now. If I remember correctly, it was an iPhone only app when it was first released.

Are you hiring? :)
