No key detected

Have a 2021 f150 lariat powerboost. Wife got out from front passengers seat and shut the door. Horn honked twice and no key detected showed in screen. She didn't have a key on her or a second left in truck. Only key was in my pocket. Any thoughts ? Thanks

Software glitch...
I have a 2021 non-powerboost Lariat and this happened to me a couple of times. Worked itself out in short order. Once was the same as you described, another I returned to my truck after the grocery store, and it unlocked, I hopped in and went to start it and it said no key....I pulled it out of my pocket and held it up by the steering column and it suddenly recognized it, and started.

I only assumed maybe it's signal was corrupt or blocked, maybe by my cell phone, or who knows what. Personally I think it's pretty scary that wireless signal between the truck and my key fob is the only thing making it so I can start and drive it...I'd really like to have a backup, old fashioned key switch I can insert the key and turn it to start and drive, too much technology can be debilitating.

Thank you for your help. Also same day for unknown reasons all my preset radio stations vanished. This truck is too expensive to have bugs.

I have had this happen a couple of times, but goes away quickly. If your truck doesn't detect the key, put it into the programing slot. On page 75 in the owners manual, it shows the location of the programing slot.

Yeah it sucks, but it is Rev. 1 and software/computer coding inherently sucks, look how long Microsoft Windows has been around, and I still occasionally get a blue screen of death on my windows 10 work computer.

My 2021 Power Boost didn’t recognize my key while on a trip. My wife’s key had to be put up by the steering column for the truck to recognize her key. We immediately went over to the local Fird Dealer and had both key’s fob batteries changed. Cured it!
Truck was almost exactly a year old at that time.
