2018 F-150 2.7 ecoboost
Hi,
we are seriously looking at a Powerboost. I would like to ask opinions on two things we are debating.

First 6.5 box or 5.5 box?
We currently have a 2018 2.7 Ecoboost with a 6.5 box and super cab. Since the PB comes with Crewcab that will add an extra foot. Or we loose lovely space that we are accustomed to.

Second question, Moonroof or no? All my cars have had moonroofs these past 20+ years and I would miss it.

This will be our only vehicle as we would trade both our F-150 truck and my Prius in on this purchase. We would use this new truck for me to drive to work (DH is retired) and to pull our Travel Trailer and be hurricane back up power!

Thanks!

If you don't have issue with length with parking lots, I would order the longer bed. My custom ordered loaded Lariat Powerboost has the 5.5' bed as I have utility trailers for hauling any long or heavy or messy items. I would order everything including moonroof and 7.2kw generator. I get 22+ mpg (not towing) and love this thing. Ziegler sells Ford Premium care warranties cheap so I would get one as this thing will be expensive to fix when out of warranty. I got 8 year 100,000 mile, added lighting option and first day rental car with "zero" deductible for $2130 which will be great resale benefit someday.

If I had ordered, rather than purchased from inventory, I would definitely get a 6.5 bed. But I have said that the last three F150's I bought.
It's really frustrating how few CrewCabs are ordered by the dealer in 6.5' format.

The Panoramic roof is not something that I would order, yet it IS on the trucks I have purchased. I didn't even know the King Ranch I bought in 2017 had the dang thing until the next day when I could see it in the light. (I impulse purchased it at night)

My brother went through the trouble of ordering the truck exactly as he wanted it. But then he had to because most dealerships will NOT inventory an HDPP F150. If you want a Payload capacity that actually let's you use the Tow capacity, you have to have the HDPP frame or you are dreaming. Lol

I don’t have or need the 6.5’ bed as I am often in the city and this truck is big for where I live to begin with. But that is a personal preference thing. I have the moonroof and really like it. I would recommend it. I also have the extended warranty so I don’t need to worry.

I realize MOST F150 owners never or rarely need that extra foot.

But there are plenty of F150 owners that can tell you that extra foot determines if they can use the truck as they prefer. One really common benefit is having a toolbox and still being able to carry your motorcycles or toys back their. And with a 6.5' bed, the tailgate down is a legitimate 8' bed. There's a ton of things that 8' is perfect for.

And if you want to sleep in the bed, oh how that extra foot matters!

Still, I am very aware that nothing I describe ever happens with 95% of the F150's on the road. In Texas, F150's are our Toyota Camry. Lol

2021 F-150 King Ranch PowerBoost - no longer have this.
I got the 5.5 foot bed but I bought off the lot. If there had been a 6.5 foot I may have gotten it because that extra foot really does matter.

But even with the 5.5 foot my turning radius is not too good and my PowerBoost doesn't quite fit into a fair number of parking spaces.

You have to figure out your priorities and go with it. I'm probably better off with the 5.5 foot due to parking at work and some other things.

And with the 5.5 foot I'm really not giving up all that much. The tailgate includes some attachment points for ratchet straps and the like so if I'm hauling over-length lumber I can drop the tailgate, load up 8 foot lumber and strap things down fairly well.

But 6.5 would be very nice!

I ordered the powerboost with the 6.5 foot bed. Prior to ordering I test drove identical 5.5 and 6.5 trucks in a parking lot. The 180 degree turn was about 2 foot wider with the 6.5 bed. Got it anyway because I haul ATVs sometimes. The Yamaha Grizzly 660 won't even fit in the 6.5 foot bed. The Yamaha Blaster 200 has a few inches to spare with the tailgate up.

If you’re able to get away with maneuvering the 6.5’ bed where you live, it’s nice to have, but for me it’s just too unwieldy for parking garages and many of the small parking lots around here (A full size truck is hard enough as it is).

The moonroof is a pure preference/luxury item. Little to no practical use other than the novelty of essentially having a glass roof. I got one because I like the open feeling it creates, but it’s totally unnecessary and just something else to break one day, I could certainly live without it.

Being in FL also, we ordered without a sunroof due to the heat. But we did order crew cab 6.5' bed powerboost with the 7.2 for a lot of the same reasons. We went with the 6.5' bed for when we take out our kayaks or get a load of mulch. Since a 5.5' bed won't fit in our FL garage due to the HVAC being in there and having to park in the driveway, the 6.5' bed made sense. Also, since towing a TT, get the tow mirrors.

I ordered mine. CC with 6.5' bed, . I came from a 8-ft F350 and I used all of it frequently. I don't intend to work this one anywhere near as hard, but that 5.5 just looked out of proportion. Parking is an issue. This truck feels much bigger than my old F350 Crew 2WD with 8-ft bed. Turn radius is much larger (4x4). If I know our destinations may have tight parking, we take my wife's car.
I skipped the moonroof and don't regret it. I never open the roof on my Escape.

When the weather is nice, I like to drive with my windows down but don't like the noise. I found that if I open the moon roof and sliding rear window, but leave the side windows up, you get the fresh air without even half the noise and "windiness" in the cab. I ordered a '22 F-150, hoping to be built in 2 weeks and can't wait for that huge moon roof driving in the Rockies.

Having finally getting the truck delivered last week, the tow mirrors are awesome. It is great not having to look over your shoulders since the mirrors eliminate blind spots. I'm still learning how to park the 157" wb LOL. I find it easier to back into spots versus trying to pull into them. :)

And the factory tow mirrors are SO affordable as an option! Not so much though as a later mod.
Awesome truck, by the way. Congrats

I can't answer the 6.5' bed option... that's just a question of whether you'd use it or not. Personally, I wouldn't... plus, I wouldn't be able to fit it in my garage. But, I will agree with folks who say that the 5.5' bed with the SuperCrew cab looks a little odd.

I have the sunroof and love it... my kids really say it's nice when they are in the back seat.

If you plan on putting different tires on it... do your research and if you are getting the PowerBoost for improved gas mileage, pay a lot of attention to the weight of the tires. I put some Nitto Ridge Grapplers (LT 285/65 R20) on mine. They are 20lbs heavier, per tire and it killed my gas mileage. The type of the tire matters too... supposedly mine are very "grippy."
