And the factory tow mirrors are SO affordable as an option! Not so much though as a later mod.
Awesome truck, by the way. Congrats
Is it possible to purchase the tow mirrors after the fact? I bought mine off the lot and it only had standard mirrors on it.

They are listed under "accessories" by Ford. Although currently they are out of stock.

Keep in mind that while they do have BLIS, 360 camera, heated, and power mirrors, they are MANUAL fold and telescope. But for $750, that's still far more than they cost as a factory option. In fact, for $250 the factory tow mirrors are power fold and telescope as well! (at least on upper trims)

Wow... for $250, those would have been nice to have on my Lariat.... maybe not for $750.

Thanks.

I think you will find that the fully electric $250 factory option tow mirrors are likely going to be considerably more expensive than $750 manual fold/telescope ones.

It's similar to the factory LED headlight options. You REALLY want to order those from the factory. Retrofitting them is insanely expensive.

This was one of the main reasons why I did a custom order. Even if there wasn't a supply shortage or pandemic, no way I could find a truck optioned the way I wanted. It was worth the five month wait.

Yea, I purchased from very limited inventory and all I learned is that the Powerboost was everything I imagined and more, but that just made me determined to order another one EXACTLY like I wanted.
So while I wait I am enjoying one. :)

Having finally getting the truck delivered last week, the tow mirrors are awesome. It is great not having to look over your shoulders since the mirrors eliminate blind spots. I'm still learning how to park the 157" wb LOL. I find it easier to back into spots versus trying to pull into them. :)

Parking is like a 10 point turn pretty much wherever we go. Luckily my wife has adjusted to parking in the back since she has known me. Now all I have to worry about is someone catching the back of the truck because it sticks out a bit more than other cars. Very happy I did not go F250.

After taking up 1 and 1/3 parking spots at work yesterday with the end of the bed in the parking spot behind, I found a better spot that'll I'll call "home" at the office, hah! Now instead of a fellow coworker complaining, I'm expecting the lawn care guys to complain. You can't win them all. :)

"PowerBeast" - our 2021 F150 Lariat 4x4 Powerboost
Hi,
we are seriously looking at a Powerboost. I would like to ask opinions on two things we are debating.

First 6.5 box or 5.5 box?
We currently have a 2018 2.7 Ecoboost with a 6.5 box and super cab. Since the PB comes with Crewcab that will add an extra foot. Or we loose lovely space that we are accustomed to.

Second question, Moonroof or no? All my cars have had moonroofs these past 20+ years and I would miss it.

This will be our only vehicle as we would trade both our F-150 truck and my Prius in on this purchase. We would use this new truck for me to drive to work (DH is retired) and to pull our Travel Trailer and be hurricane back up power!

Thanks!

When it comes to towing your travel trailer typically the limiting factor is Payload, not Towing Capacity.

This is even more important with the PowerBoost, due to the added weight of the hybrid electric motor and battery.

Some of the options you can avoid to help keep payload up:
  • Moon/Sunroof
  • Power running boards
  • Power tailgate
  • FX4 Off Road
  • Max Tow Package
  • 20" Wheels
  • B&O Unleashed
  • Spray-in bed liner

BTW, the Pro Power on Board 7.2K option on the Powerboost is amazing when out with a travel trailer!

Tow mirrors should be a "delete" option (every truck comes with them unless you delete them. : )

I have the 6.5 and appreciate the length (many times, the things I carry would require leaving the tailgate down (not okay for long distance or winter.)
Downside would be:
1) turning circle
With the 360º and accurate parking sensors, and cross traffic alert for backing out, I have no trouble maneuvering around city streets.
All F-150's are wide (or wider, in the case of the Rapto') and that's the real pain of parking spots (door dings) so I just park way the f over the other side of the parking lot or the top of the parking building, etc. So far, 15K miles and zero dings.
2) weight
The extra iron must reduce mpg, but I'm guessing it's 0.5%. The tow mirrors cost at least 1% and the stock mirrors cost 1% (round figures, based on scientific test reports of numerous vehicles.)
(btw. I don't understand why Ford even allows a config of Max Tow without tow mirrors.)
3) cost and resale value
I think the cost is relatively trivial on the whole window sticker. I think resale value could be an issue, but I don't know the ratio of long-/short-bed sales. As they say, "buy the vehicle for yourself, not the next owner."

Second question, Moonroof or no? All my cars have had moonroofs these past 20+ years and I would miss it.

I'm 50:50 on moonroofs and the F-150 has a huge moonroof, not just a peephole to tack money on the window sticker. I didn't get it, but next time, in the Lightning, I might. It's a great moonroof.

Given the travel trailer, I think the longer bed is worthwhile.

My F-150 Prius is my daily driver, long haul interstate self-driving easy rider, around-town pickup and grocery getter, dog bed, overnighter and makes me smile every time I see it.

Second all of this. Also, I do not have the tow mirrors on my Lariat Powerboost, 1441 lbs of payload, but my trailer is a Micro Minnie 2100bh and it’s only 7’ wide with a slide out, so the stock mirrors are fine. Anything wider and I would have the tow mirrors.

The 7.2Kw inverter makes dispersed camping soooo easy and more pleasurable without the noise and inconveniences of carrying a portable generator.
