Hello all. I am new here and don’t know much about updating vehicles. I have a 2009 f150 I bought used and is the newest vehicle I have owned. I am trying to understand what I need to do other than maintenance to keep the truck running good so please forgive me if I ask some stupid questions. Can someone please do a vin lookup for me?

FYI - This forum is for the 14th Generation of the F-150 that started in 2021. While many of the mods for trucks will be somewhat similar, I think you'll find better information if you find the 13th Generation forum for your 2009. I believe 2009 is 13th gen but it could be 12th gen too, I do not know.

Good luck with your truck and I hope you find that the correct forum for your generation truck is as wonderful as this forum is.

EDIT: 2009 is 12th generation.

Likely a 5.4L 3V, change the oil every 5k at a minimum and use 5W-30 instead of the specified 5W-20. Listen for any startup rattles on a cold start, that indicates a failed timing chain tensioner gasket, which leaks oil down the face of the block and starves the cams and towers on the passenger bank. Critical item. Those are really the weak link, if a timing job was all ready done it is likely to be totally fine. Just keep an ear open.

Below I attached a picture of my failed tensioner on my 2007 Expedition, this is what’s happens. A picture of the new unit I installed follows. Another thing that’s a great upgrade is a new oil pump for that engine. FYI my buddy bought my Expedition off me and it’s still running with nearing 260k miles. The 5.4 is a fine engine behind these weak links.

You are not wrong sir. I have tried to duplicate my good fortune finding this forum (credit to @Jus Cruisin ), but found mostly disappointment regarding my other interests. This forum has set a high bar indeed.
