I’ve been trying to get one of these for a while now. it’s a 2wd as I have another 4wd. It’s my first new truck since 2013. I thought I was getting the black bumpers and steel wheels. The salesman must have misspoke when asked which package it was. This throws off my whole plan for the truck. I was going to rock the steelies indefinitely. I want it to look stock. Not because I’m going to be racing or anything. I just like to blend in in general. Now I’m considering a XLT grill with the chrome insert and oem chrome wheels.

Regardless I’m super happy with the truck. Mods so far are the Whipple, Ford Performance lowering kit and Roush cat back. I’d like to go an inch or more lower in the rear, but I don’t know of a way to do that without switching it up completely. I’ve ordered the JLT oil seperator, stubby antennae and a phone mount. The windows are tinted. That will be it until after Christmas.

I did do a couple small things this morning. I don’t know that I like the gloss black fender vents next to the black plastic mirrors. I’m going to try disassembling the factory xl vents to see if I can just transfer the “Ford Performance” lettering to them.

I still haven’t decided whether I’m going to wrap the chrome bumpers Black and go with Black factory wheels or get a gloss Black XLT grille with the chrome accent and go with factory chrome wheels.

We took her for a spin last night around town. I had a Mustang and some older trucks that I changed up the exhaust a few times before I got the sound I wanted. This Roush cat back has a great sound at idle, light and heavy acceleration, not too loud and very deep, beautiful tone IMO. It only has the very slightest rasp when braking and slowing down especially in Sport mode. but it has a very loud drone at interstate speed. If it were my daily I probably wouldn’t be able to live with it. I’m going to leave it as is as next year I’ll be removing the cats and will have to get a quieter cat back anyway, probably the stock one.

It’s funny a couple years ago when I first started trying to get one of these sleeper trucks few people knew about them. Now it seems everytime I get her out someone wants to race me. It’s not a secret anymore. Last night an Infiniti G35 with loud, “cackling” exhaust pulled up beside me downshifted and started goosing it. I’m proud of my new found will power. I didn’t react. Not yet.

I haven't tried it, but I'm pretty sure you can take the vents apart. I've seen people just selling the badges.

Personally, I'd keep the chrome. Everyone does the all black BS. Why be like everyone else?

PS- where's your hood? :)

I thought I saw a post too where someone had separated the lettering. It looks like it would be time consuming and delicate. First you have to remove the inner grill part. The back of the lettering is under that and down in a hole.

I think this Blue looks better accented in Black. The first time I saw this color and liked it was on an Explorer ST we did. It really pairs well with Black. Then again I like chrome too. ?

I’m in Lexington, KY.

Sweet truck, I wish we were closer as I have a set of new take off steelies as I couldn’t find the aluminum take offs.

Very cool build! You got the fog lights but did yours come with the work station? Later trucks had that as part of the package. A one piece painted to match tonneau cover works exceptionally well on RCSB trucks basically giving you a Mustang with a very large trunk lolol! Shelby quit making a RCSB version but you can look at older ones for inspiration..
Stripes and the one piece tonneau cover transform the truck. But I remember seeing a build with custom wide rear steelies as part of a total 'sleeper' including fake construction (drywall company?) logo and small light weight aluminum tool box.. That truck was super charged among other go fast mods. I planned to just toss a bale of hay in the back..

I have that in mine. Not a fan. To the point I'd love to find a console out of an XLT to swap out the seat with.

I did get the work station, but I don’t care for it. Like Larrymoe I want to get a console from an XLT. I do like how the one piece fiberglass painted bed covers look, but I worry about the paint match. I’ve seen a lot of them over the years that don’t match perfectly and it would bother me. I will get a hard fold up style before spring. I shoot competitively and there is no room in the cab so it’s a must.

I don’t like stripes, never have. Even if I did, unless they’re painted on after a while they fade out and look like crap. I’m not sure which direction I’m going yet as far as looks. I’ve always liked modifications that only car guys would recognize as modifications.

I ordered a JLT catch can. The next purchase will be a catless Y pipe. These supercharged trucks are notorious for melting the cats and blowing the engine. They say the Whipple tune has corrected for it, but I don’t want to take any chances. That means I have to get a quieter exhaust too, probably the stock cat back.

I also need to check the transmission fluid level. I haven’t noticed anything, but I’ve read about some of them coming from the factory low on fluid. It’ll be a chore as I don’t have a lift and I have to get it up to at least 205 degrees. I’ve never seen it above 180 so far during normal driving. Then I have to get it up on four jack stands before it cools off. Then I have to be careful not to get burnt on the exhaust.

I’m in no hurry to do any of it. I don’t want to spend a lot of money and time just for it to be “done” soon. I like to do a little at a time so stay interested in it.

I've never seen the transmission on mine get above 180 either. Mine shifts hard occasionally, but it's usually the first upshift and downshift when it's kinda cold. Once it's warm it usually is very smooth.

Just about the time I think it's smooth sailing here on out, it gives a clunker though. I might give the transmission a check when I take the rear blocks out.

I crawled under the truck yesterday when I washed it and soaped up the under carriage and gave it a soap and rinse since the state needed to salt for no reason earlier last week

Bought a new take off set of XLT wheels and tires. I’d post a pic, but can’t get it to upload.
