Yes, since I've had the truck, and after I installed an air intake on it, I usually hear a good release at the blow-off value. But while driving and multiple gas pedal releases, I get numerous blow-off valve noises that sound like angry Birds chirping. For today, I think I heard 3 to 4 chirps from the blow-off valve on the interstate after I let off the gas.

Does anybody have a fix for this?

Can an aftermarket upgraded blow-off valve solve this problem or issue? this

Turbos make noise. Ford likes to hide the noise. If you changed anything pre or post-turbo, you'll hear more noise.

Yeah, I understand that, but I'm also trying to minimize the noise and the back pressure leak. I have a smart BOV getting delivered tomorrow, so I will update you after driving with it.

Interesting. I never hear the blow off valve.

Install a cold air intake, and you sure will. The spool from the turbos is satisfying.

Why do you think there's a leak? The bypass valve will actuate under a lot of light throttle conditions as the turbo would still be making pressure in the intake tract even if it's not higher than the engine vacuum.

You want less noise but went with a blow-off valve?

It's tough to explain, but the turbo pressure seems to release at a lower PSI, making this slight flutter-chipping noise when I let off the gas. I don't think it has anything to do with a vacuum line. I have an smart blow-off valve tomorrow, which I will install and see if this fixes the problem.

What @hotrodmex described is what you're likely hearing. Blow off valves do not only function during full boost conditions - even light throttle where you're only making a few psi will activate it when the throttle is closed.

I'm not sure what a 'smart' blow off valve is or what it would fix here.

I'm saying that the bypass valve will be venting pressure all the time, as the turbo is pressurizing air all the time (not literally, but in most acceleration events, no matter how light you have the throttle).

I don't think it has anything to do with a vacuum line.
I wasn't referring to a vacuum line, as the bypass valve is electronically controlled. I mean if you had a vac/pressure gauge on the truck like this
Ford F-150 Multiple Angry Birds Blow off Chirps. 1715722005182-02
you would see that even in instances where the engine would be reading in vacuum, the turbo is still spinning and making pressure that would need to be vented when you close the throttle plate.

Serious, proceed with extreme caution until you can get the fundamentals down. I’ve popped 2 motors awhile ago talking like this.

I appreciate the feedback from you guys. That is why I signed up for this forum.

What do you recommend I double-check?

I'm a manufacturing engineer, not a turbo expert ?.

The truck runs perfectly, and the boost is on point. I just hit 16,000 miles.

Edit: @Vick! This is a good read if you truly want to learn more - Maximum Boost: Designing, Testing and Installing Turbocharger Systems (Engineering and Performance) https://a.co/d/6iIHetP

Some of the info is outdated in regards to current tuning methodologies, but the overall basics hold true.

I appreciate the information. Also, the noise started after moving the factory air intake and putting an aftermarket K&N.

Stock diaphragm and spring on your waste gate diverter (you’re recirculating vs. a vent to atmosphere style blow-off valve) should be good unless it’s tuned and just giving up, even then it takes awhile and you’d feel some surge.

All that audible chatter you’re hearing should be expected with an aftermarket intake with pedal activity. It’s constantly dumping boost and closing back up attempting to support your throttle request. It’s always there but only becomes audible post opening up the intake.

Also there isn’t a smart BOV. TurboSmart makes BOVs though. Did you pick up a TurboSmart BOV? If so for sure return it, it won’t be a hot swap with OEM.

Expected then. Enjoy the new turbo noises and stop throwing money at something that is normal.

Refer to my first post in this thread for further clarification. ?
