Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. If you use this for your ford credit access, and use an "authenticator" app on your phone like the one from microsoft, and you switch phones, you could run into a problem.

This just happened to me. Despite transferring everything successfully to the new phone, it doesn't recognize it correctly. Unfortunately, with no way to authenticate, you can't get into your account to pay the bill or whatever else. There is no reset or workaround, other than calling a phone number, and they submit a request to remove the MFA from your account, send you an email a 2-3 business days later, and then you should be able to get in. If you still have to use MFA from that point, the direction is to use email so you don't have a further issue.

Depending on which MFA app you are using, can't you back it up to a cloud account and then recover that backup to a new device?

Yes you could. But if you are like me, and didn't look that far into it, this is what awaits you.

Technically, you could go in prior to switching phones and turn it off, or change it to email, and then do it again after you made the switch.

I just wasn't thinking about it, prior to doing all that.

You can back up and restore the token to a new device. But you have to sync it again in the portal.

I was just posting as a warning to others. If you back it up right and all that it works. But if you don't and say you transfer stuff and erase the old phone, it is just not that easy to fix. Thats all.

Good advice! I switched phones and lost access to my work email for the same reason. Rather than trying to unwind all of the issues, I just gave up access to that email on my phone. It was just too much of a pain in the rear to fix that it wasn't worth the extra convenience.

Background is in IT, and we always used Authy with no issues. I have personally switched phones twice, and all my athenticator codes were carried over each time perfectly. FWIW.
