Hello,

I'm looking at ordering a new 2022 F150 Powerboost. I'm trying to decide between the sport or the standard. Where my concern lies is I would get the interior work surface option. So if I go with the sport, what are the odds of the motor for the shifter breaking eventually? Does anyone use it a lot and what are your thoughts on it?

Not an exact response to your question, but I have the jump seat with interior work surface. Personally, I love the column shifter and work surface. I use the work surface all the time and it accommodates a small laptop well. Maybe I'd have other thoughts with just the jump seat without the work surface but I don't have that comparison.

If I could get the package I want with a column shifter I would do it just to gain the cubby space where the oversized flight simulator shifter is in the console

If the shifter breaks, I am assuming Ford will fix it. I don't have the work surface, but I do play with the shifter on occasion.

I think the main reason for concern is that the operation of it isn't "smooth as silk". If it was, I doubt we would have as many threads on it (my own thread included). But these motorized shifters are in 3 model years as of right now, correct? I haven't heard of widespread problems.

I tried the fold down thing once. Just cause. I selected not to have the work surface. I just use the space for the shifter to fold down to keep my phone in.

As mentioned, all of them are motorized. Given the amount of F150s sold, finding a replacement a few years down the line will be easy and just like replacing any other part.

Both shifters are 'drive by wire' -- there's no connection to the trans, everything is electrical. Parking brake, brake booster, steering booster, shifter, trans operation, throttle, and probably a half dozen other parts. There's both mechanical and electrical water pumps, some trims even have an additional electric trans pump and an additional cooling loop with yet another electrical pump.

I've had the console shifter out and it's surprisingly heavy. It could double as a club or expensive hammer if you need it to.

I have the motorized console shifter and the work surface.. I am at jobsites every day and use the work surface both to work and eat my lunch many times..
Yes, I do wish the shifter operated more smoothly but it works..
Better still, if we had a dial shifter, it would save money and space and any possible wear and tear!

When I saw the shifter in the normal position it sits in (for those that extend/retract in the console) I told my dealer (why's this thing at that weird angle?) He said, "its to make it easy to put a laptop there or something and turn it into a workspace." My reply, "Cool Ford, so then why not just keep the column shifter for those who want to do that and leave the console open full time or keep the console shifter like they were? Also am i the only one that feels like the shifter action feels so sloppy going from gear to gear? The column shifter is smooth but no way i was gonna buy a XL with no options.

2021 XLT Screw 5.0,4x4,302Asport,
I've got the Work surface and Console. Work surface gets used. Is it essential, no, but it makes a difference. Wifey rides shotgun and works. What she wants is a airline style table for her laptop and mouse. I keep telling her to ride in the back 'Driving Miss Daisy" Style and I'll get her a back seat table. And Stop dropping the dang mouse on the floor. Its distracting.
