Looking to see if anyone has purchased a mini USB drive that is compatible. I've purchased two now that aren't (see pic). Love to find one one that works and just leave it plugged in.

Try reformatting them. I have mini Sandisk that works fine.

You used FAT32 format, right? If not, try that.

FWIW I've been using this since June 2022 with FLAC music files, FAT32, no problems. Plugged into the port in the cubby in front of the console shifter, it stays there except to add albums, currently ~400 albums / ~5000 tracks.

Amazon.com: Samsung Type-C™ USB Flash Drive, 256GB, Transfers 4GB Files in 11 Secs w/Up to 400MB/s 3.13 Read Speeds, Compatible w/USB 3.0/2.0, Waterproof, 2022, Blue, MUF-256DA/AM : Electronics

I never had a problem with the tiny Sandisk 'Cruiser' drives in the truck, but stopped using them when I found they get very hot when transferring large numbers of files on my laptop.

BTW, if you're using a MAC / MACOS to create your USB drive, that OS can sometimes add hidden files to the drive which SYNC can find problematic (e.g. 'hang' and not 'play past' one of those files if encountered).

I guess I'll just try a different brand. I have a 1TB in there now and it works great. Just really want a mini so I can leave it there.

I've never had any issues with SanDisk but I'm using smaller size.

The heat is a known factor and I prefer the older metal version over the plastic for that reason. Some reports online of errors when they get hot.

Which port did you plug the usb into? I believed music can only be read from under the HVAC.

Correct. Ports inside cavernous console are power only no data connection. I think that is silly but I'm sure that saved Ford a few pennies per truck.

That's where I've been putting them (in the front). Agreed - it is a little annoying the one inside the console isn't a data port.

I have those SanDisk mini USBs (loaded with MP3 music) and they work just fine on my 23 Tremor.

I honestly didn't realize you could play music from a USB drive on the Sync 4 screen. This is good to know. Are there only certain file formats that will work or will there be no issue with MP3 or WAV files? I have a 2024 XLT. Does the screen just come up in a list file format with a media player? Thanks

MP3 WAV WMA all supported with sync 1.0

Now add in FLAC and who knows what else.

Funny thing since you mentioned it I can't find any reference to what file formats sync 4 supports in the manual. ?‍♂

FWIW I had a USB stick with WMA files from a SYNC 3 system when I got my F150 w/SYNC 4. It wouldn't play, went back to my rip-archive and created USB w/FLAC and all was good.

(IOW, WMA support may have been dropped for SYNC 4? )

Bottom line I know FLAC is supported, and even if you don't think lossless is necessary it's a compact and widely supported format that allows tons-o-tunes on a drive. ;)
