So hopefully this saves someone some trouble, but I was able to lock my keys inside the truck using the Ford Pass app. I was at the beach and didn't want to carry around my keys in the sand, but needed the phone with me.

When I got back to the truck, the Ford Pass app would not unlock the truck. I had to call AAA to break into the truck after trying the app for 30 minutes.
That's unfortunate. I've ever had that happen thankfully.

So if the fob is inside, you can lock it from the outside using the keypad, but you can't lock it using the Lock button?
That's correct. Presumably, they think you're about to accidentally lock them in by hitting the lock button. With the keypad, you have to deliberately lock it and then they figure you'll know the code to get back in.

I have a 2022 XLT 302a Powerboost, which comes with push button start. This topic is of great interest to me. Some of the information in this thread is correct for my truck, & some is not.

My truck will only lock with the keyless entry pad, if I leave the key fob in the truck. In fact, if I try to lock it by touching the lock button inside the door, or on the door handle, the truck immediately locks, unlocks, & sounds the horn. Curiously, if I lock a fob in the truck with the keypad, & then unlock the truck with the keypad, I can get in & start the truck without touching the fob that was left in the truck. That is to say that the fob is not rendered passive, & I do not have to touch the unlock button on it to start the truck.

Finally, I can unlock the truck with the keyless entry pad, & hit the middle button to unlock & lower my tailgate.

How can operation be so different from truck to truck?

My Powerboost works the same way and I use this feature quite a bit. Regarding the key fob working without touching it this is intended behavior. If someone gained access to the truck without entering the code on the keypad the truck wouldn’t start (unless they found the fob and hit the unlock button).

Thanks for the clarification. It makes sense to me.

I initially thought that just might foil the code snatcher thieves. I hoped that I could just leave a fob locked in the truck & the only downside would be that I had to use the keypad to lock & unlock the truck. Well it turns out that if you approach the vehicle with a key fob locked in the truck, & another in your pocket, all of the unlock features work, just like they always have. I guess I am going to have to buy faraday pouches for my key fobs.

I just read a news article about a local festival where code snatchers walked around the festival picking up fob codes, sending them to accomplices in the parking lot, who robbed cars willy nilly. There ought to be some easy way to thwart this kind of thief. A faraday pouch may currently be the best defense.

Don't mean to necro but I don't believe this actually works. I had someone lock me in my truck with the keypad. I was able to start the truck with the keys on my pocket without unlocking it without it. I'll give it a little longer and see if it works

Well logic suggests that you and the key were both in the truck else how could the button be pushed? Need to see if someone w/out fob could place a hand on the door and open it with fob in and door locked.

I had someone else lock it yeah. My point is if someone breaks a window or finds another way in they can start it if you leave a key inside.

Indeed, don't leave a fob in the vehicle unless it's foil wrapped and verified.

Maybe if you have the fancy motion activated fob that some trucks came with it'll keep someone from starting it. Think I'll get the console safe and put a faraday pouch in it

So they'd just have to rock the vehicle first? Not smart.
