I have had my used 2021 Powerboost for about 3-4 months now, I am coming from two previous turbo engines (17 Focus ST, 18 Accord 2.0) both were tuned running 93 octane fuel

essentially what I am curious about is running a 5star tune with 87 octane fuel or the Livernois tune which from what I understand only runs at 91 or 93 octane

the e-boost option is appealing to me

anyone that has run either 5star or the Livernois, I would love to hear your personal experience with the tunes

any feedback is greatly appreciated!

They were running a special on Black Friday and I was torn between the two but pulled the trigger with Livernois. I run 93 on every tank. I work from home, so I rarely put miles on my truck besides using it as my tow vehicle in the warmer months (Apr-Sep) for my camper.

Same mpg, but I did also add BFG ko2's at the same time, so that was pretty much a wash. I normally drive in eco anyways and get around 18-22 in the winter (using heated wheel/seats). In the summer, I've been getting 20-24mpg (if only low speed city driving, best I've seen is 26mpg).

Livernois 3.5EB here. Very happy with results; didn't have the truck stock long enough to verify an increase in MPG but I did hit my highest of 25.4 after tuning. Throttle better; only skips 2nd gear under light acceleration; still bangs dropping down into 9th or 8th on occasion though. He turned off auto stopstart which I was ambivalent about. "Miles till empty" increased considerably: I now see 735+ miles on a full tank on fillup after eco driving.

Truck is definitely quicker. Does seem slightly anemic on the top end, I think as a function of the increased torque making the HP seem light.

In doing research I found two anecdotal problems with the 5-Star, which are documented here and here. I also found that Ford has come out with tuning of their own and the tuning device they use is identical to the Livernois one except with Ford branding; this led some to believe there is some cooperation between the two (which they deny in their youtube video comments).

Now I wonder if I should have boosted the coyote instead.. thirst is a thing.

I felt the same about my Livernois tune, then I added the AFE Momentum intake and it fixed that right up as the truck now pulls notably better up to redline.

It might have been you that pointed that out to me; I asked them why they don't sell an intake, do I need an intake and do I need a new tune if I get one and they said no, no & no.

Did you retune after the intake?

I did not retune.

I presume that these trucks have the ability to read airflow and the tune just adds more fuel as more air is introduced.

Clearly that's a very basic description/ understanding of what is occurring, but you get the idea.

He said just that in response

you could always add one and the truck will adjust on the fly as needed to take that into account without any calibration changes needed being a speed density vehicle.

I appreciate the feedback, all info seems to lead back to the Livernois tune with 91 or 93. I was trying to save a little money on gas by using 87 but there's always the Costco discount on premium ?

did you feel that the shifting at lower gears was less clunky, that has been my only issue with this truck so far is that it seems to lunge a bit on the lower gears and smooths out top gears

my only "mods" have been a 1.5" spacer and AT tires, plus a stubby antenna lol[

Shifting is incredibly night and day better after the tune.
I plan on switching to the tow tune and keeping it on during the summer when I plan to tow.

Does the livernois allow all modes to be used still with their tune values or does it only change the trans programming in normal mode?

anyone have any issues with warranty claims flipping the ecu back to stock prior to dealer drop off?

I have the Livernois 87-93 tow tune and the 93 Performance tune. The 87-93 will automatically adjust to the octan you’re feeding it.

No regrats with my Livernois tune. They supply several, one will fit your needs.

If you have access to 91+ octane, the extra power is there using that mapping.
