because of the number of miles I rack up I'm on a 2+ year cycle the last few trucks, and I had the exact opposite response feeling from 15' to the 17' trucks when Ford started using this seat, I'm a big man and I didn't think these new seats would hold up due to being far less "substantial" in appearance than the previous seat so I feel like I gained headroom in these seats as opposed to lost headroom, from reading these post, my experience is apparently in the minority (Damn, now I might have to apologize for the pompadour quip!)
I should clarify, I haven’t necessarily noticed more or less headroom, I just feel like I’m sitting higher than in my old truck. Like I can see much more of the hood, feel a little higher overall off the ground. If the height is the same I guess that means there’s less headroom, but it’s not an issue for me.

Unless 70% of your height is in your lega, or you have the seat reclined way back, or are leaning over to the right so you are in the moonroof area, I just don’t see how that’s possible….lol and with a hard hat on?

It’s really unfortunate. I don’t have a problem sitting high, but when you le hair is rubbing…major pain in the ass.
I’m not disputing your experience but I’m not an urban leaner, I have a 34” inseam, I drive with an elbow on the window ledge, seat is all the way back and all the way down, very little back lean because my daughter is 5’13” and sits behind me instead of behind her mom so that she and her mom can converse…I haven’t had high hair since the Corps…yesterday I climbed into the truck, made a fist, placed it on top of my head and my knuckles contacted the roof speaker…maybe the “sleeping buckets” have a lower seat height?

Hi there,

has anyone noticed less headroom with the moonroof option in this gen., vs the previous?

I am 6’-5” and my hair rubs the headliner siting naturally, not super upright, not slouched over.
Super annoying. I’m in a lariat 502a if that makes any difference.

Anyone else having any issues with headroom? Any possible solutions?
Yes, seat is all the way down.

thanks!
I'm a pretty tall guy myself, but don't have an issue, you can always do what I do. Shave your head. LOL

I had the exact same issue with Lariat. 6’4.5”- 235 with 34 inch inseam. Unless I leaned the seat very far back I had to crouch to not hit head.

No moonroof was ok, but there is a ridge right around head with seat all the way back so had to place seat to avoid.

I didn’t end up with the truck because going no moonroof was deal killer for me. Though to be fair the Sierra had same issue with sunroof and from memory Ram did as well (but that was 2017 or so not sure if new ones are any better).

Unfortunately I have no solution, but wish someone did. I stuck with current car (X5) because of driver seat room. But growing kids are going to be unhappy behind me.

I agree on both fronts.
All of the other pickups with moonroofs are more or less the same, Toyota and Nissan are the worst offenders. However, this is my first vehicle with the moonroof, and it's such a nice feature, I don't think I could ever go back. It opens up the cabin so much.

I am going to try to make it work, and just recline the seat back and push it forward, and hopefully I can get used to it. Not ideal at all, but it's such a great truck otherwise.

The next one will be a German car. Zee Germans know how to design and manufacture for a tall person even with the moon-roofs. Lots of headroom in Mercedes & BMWs from what I have experienced.

I 100% agree with this. Had a 2015 lariat for 6 years before my 2021 lariat and the higher seating position (feel or physically higher I don't know) was the biggest first impression I had between the two.

Yep, first thing I tried to do when I got in was adjust the seat down and it stopped at a much higher feeling position than I was used to. Very quickly got used to it, but at first it definitely did feel like I was sitting perched up noticeably higher than in my 2015.

Has anyone found any good solutions to this?
I thought I could just deal with it but it’s driving me insane. I brought it to the dealer to compare with other trucks and they all seem to be the same.

If you tilt the backrest more, you have to move the seat bottom forward to compensate a bit, but then your legs are too cramped up front and the pedals don’t go far enough back (yes they are adjusted) and to adjust the radio or anything you have to lean forward to reach for it.
Even if the moonroof wasn’t there, it would still be uncomfortable because my eyes are right at the top of the windshield.

It’s so disappointing because I love the truck but it has to be the most uncomfortable vehicle I have ever driven, and these aren’t things you notice right away on a test drive.

I would seriously caution anyone who is pushing 6’-4” to carefully consider the seating position before purchasing.

Sorry to hear it. Unfortunately it seems like Ford and the other truck makers optimized the cabins for average sized folks, at the expense of you big guys. Good news, if you decide to trade it in you'll probably get a fair price right now.

I have measured the drivers seat (from seat bottom to underside of headliner) at 38-1/2" H
The passenger seat, which hasn't had any passengers yet measures at 38-1/4" H

So after 1600 kms the driver seat foam has compressed 1/4"

Anyone know if I should expect the seat foam to compress even more?

If I could get another 1/4" I would be "sitting" pretty.

I am 6'5" (195.6 cm) also. Since I have no hair on the top of my head it is not a problem. I would recommend going bald and then you have no issue with hair getting stuck in the moonroof

6’5” here with a moonroof. The only explanations for this “issue” are varying torso lengths and seat position. I have never had this hair touching the roof thing be an issue. Never even a thought.

Just went and sat in my truck. Seat as low as it goes and back rest straight up for test only as my normal backrest position is a slight incline. Still 2” of clearance from the top of my skull, not my hair.

I guess some people have longer torsos than others.

Yes, for sure some people have longer torsos, that is why it’ll work for some not for others. Just curious as to how much more I could expect the seat to sink over time.

Also, Fors advertises the headroom for both with and without moonroof at 40.8”…which is clearly not the case. Not sure where they got those numbers from.
