I dont understand the gas mileage. Am I very lucky? My 3.5l (2023 crew cab 4x4 with tanau cover 3.55 gears, dynapro at2 tires) typically averages 21-23 mixed town and highway driving. I get 24-25 straight highway trips. How is everyone's 3.5 doing so bad? I say this because getting as good gas mileage as I am I dont see much of an argument to buy a 2.7.

and does your seat belt diagram on your dashboard go out on its own or do you have to push ok every time you get in the trunk
try buckling the back seat belts.

Bizarre as it sounds, that's what did it for my wife's maverick.

I had a 2011 F 150 Scab and a 2021 F 150 Scab, both 3.5 EB and 3.55 rear end. Over all average for both trucks 13.5 L/100 km or 21 MPG. I found the 2.7 a little sluggish when test driving one, coming from my 2011 3.5 EB. So ordered the 2021 with the 3.5 EB. Where I live, during the winter, there is al Iot of idling warming up the motor and drive train. Along with square tires and frozen grease.

The 2.7 has better volumetric efficiency per a third party test report I read some years ago when I worked for Ford funny enough. It's a newer design built with boost in mind. The current 3.5 can still trace its lineage to the older normally aspirated V6 engines Ford built. The 3.5 also tends to appear in trucks with a heavier curb weight to begin with so you'll get some mileage penalty with that.

The 2.7 really is the best volume engine (IMO) in the half ton market and has been for many years. The majority of F150s built have it under the hood. I worked on these for nearly 8 years and only ever saw issues with the early oil pan sealing and rarely a turbo oil feed line with a poorly made check valve. Combine the power and torque with CGI block, weight, efficiency, cost and ease of maintenance and it's a winner. The belt driven oil pump is a complete non issue. I only ever heard of 1 failure in our large dealership group and it was a case of infant mortality that blew up with a few hundred miles. These things take fleet abuse for hundreds of thousands of miles and keep on ticking.
