IPMA Update fail

2021 F150 Powerboost Hybrid. So I tried doing a software update on my IPMA module and it ended up failing using FDRS, tried a PMI afterwards to try to get it back to where it was, programming fails, any ideas why it wouldn’t work? The module is purple now in FDRS, meaning it responded negatively, so it’s not completely dead. Getting codes from other modules because of the IPMA, the IPMA is at fault because of the update failing. Any ideas?

It completes the 5 steps with the blocks but then says it’s failing after “block erase in progress”. In hindsight, it makes me wish I never tried updating anything.

What pass-thru are you using? Battery voltage? SSM 50388 wants a minimum of 12.6VDC for flashing the IPMA.

Also it's the weekend when FDRS is known to go down for maintenance. No need to panic just yet.

I’m using an Autel MaxiFlash VCI J2534, battery voltage at 12.6-12.7V but sometimes dropped to 12.4-12.5V according to FDRS during programming

It’s up to date according to the autel scanner, I also just downloaded FDRS yesterday so everything should be latest version

Obviously there is a wealth of information on here regarding FDRS updating, and although the IPMA can be a lengthy procedure, it's been done a ton of times successfully.

However, the Mongoose is by far the dominant adapter in use. I personally screwed up (purpled) my CCM module with a different adapter and the Mongoose rescued it.

Hope you can get your hands on one and see if it can do the same?

so basically do the same procedure PMI process through FDRS with the mongoose passthrough device?

You shouldn't be having any issues with the Autel. It's a much better piece of kit than the Mongoose. Are you using wired or wireless method? If wireless definitely use it with the USB instead. Otherwise it might be work giving it a shot a few times and if all else fails wait until Monday.

I ordered a proper maintainer to hold the voltage steady at 13V as per SSM 50388 that you told me about needing 12.6-13.6V through entire programming procedure, my voltage sometimes dropped to 12.4-12.5V during programming. I am using the USB connection, one end connection goes from vehicle connector to the vci, and the other end goes from laptop to vci with the usb cable provided with the tool. And the laptop is connected to wifi.

If all else checks out I'd be willing to bet it's a weekend issue with FDRS.

did you do PMI with the mongoose and the everything went through?

Exactly. I believe I was following the advice of Jesse-Infotainment by doing that.
When I posted that I purpled (bricked) my CCM with the nano, he pm'd me immediately and told me to breath. :)

Obviously I didn't have cruise control for a few days but sure enough, minutes after the Mongoose arrived, all was well.

Having said all that, I'm far from an expert on these things and I didn't know anything about the Autel and it sounds like it's not inferior in the way the VCXnano proved to be. So maybe I shouldn't be so optimistic that the solution would be the same?

I just want the OP (you) to get past this. Or put another way, I don't want you or anyone to regret using FDRS to maintain their own truck.
