Add another one to the list…

2023 XLT with 4200kms.

It’s happened twice now, both in low -20s(Celsius) minutes from starting.

I have little faith in dealership to fix this after reading several threads now on the subject. I’ll take it to the dealer if nothing else to document and add yet another to Fords list of vehicles with this problem.

I’ve given up tracking how often this has happened now. Always left front and can’t seem to replicate through specific steps.

Truck is going back to the dealer in a week for the random dash alerts I get. Will be adding this so there’s at least record of it in case that part comes apart. happening his many times in <5k miles has me worried icomponents won’t last long.

Add another one to the list. 2023 XLT 4x4 with 8K miles, grinds every drive for about 10 seconds, feels like I’m on a rumble strip. Please keep us updated on the dealership’s resolution, I am in Texas so the dealers down here are all unaware of the issue.

I'm here for this thread as well.......

I have a 2023 XLT 4x4 5.0 with 13k miles and have this issue. It did it for the first time a few weeks ago and has only done it on cold mornings when it is below 28 degrees. The first time it happened I knew immediately what was going on - one of the front hubs was locking. My last truck was a 2014 F150. During ownership of that truck I had one of the auto locking hub go bad and it would not unlock. It made the exact same noise.

So far the truck has done this three times, and only on mornings when it's under 28 degrees. The first time it happened three times on the way to work. The first two times on that drive I shifted in and out of 4H and it unlocked the hub. The noise went away. The third time that morning it unlocked itself after about 10 seconds and didn't happen again until the next morning drive under 28 degrees.

The next two times it happened on a morning drive it locked and unlocked itself in less than 5 seconds and didn't do it again.

The truck was at the dealer this week and they couldn't replicate the issue. They even kept it overnight and drove it the next morning, but it was only about 30 degrees so it didn't do it. They sent me on my way and said to let them know if it got any worse.

It's going down in the low 20's this weekend so I'm going for a drive with my jack in the back of the truck with hopes that if it happens I can pull over in a parking lot and jack up each of the front wheels to see which one is locking. I will attempt to get a video to show the dealer and I will post it here if I'm successful. Wish me luck.

And anotha one.

Left front for certain. It's happened three or more times now. Always below 30 or so degrees. Always 30mph or less. Always coasting. This morning was the first time I hit the 4H button to see if it would go away. After a thunk, the sound was gone and I was good to switch back to 2H.

I won't send it in until it's either absolutely fucking broken or a revised part is confirmed released and working. I have 9 years left on the ESP to have it taken care of. Hopefully Groove Ford isn't the nearest dealer at that point.

I don't think a part revision is necessary. Or I don't think the E-IWE is a poor design.
I'm guessing it's an IWE strategy in the PCM programming that may be the culprit?

My service manager knew right where I was headed when mentioning it. They’ve submitted an “item of concern” to Ford. With some luck maybe it’ll lead to a TSB?

Good to know at least it's on Ford's radar. I can't reliably replicate it so I've taken to keeping it in 4A any time it's remotely cold. I will continue to do so until either Ford figures their sh!t out, or (more likely) it warms up.

Very interesting. I’ll have to do some research and see if anyone else has had any IWE issues. Seems like the issue only appears when traveling 45 and slightly turning right (making noise on front left)
My 23 f150 xlt 5.0 does same thing. Only when temperatures or below 32. Currently 3000 miles on truck and have had it happen about 5 different times.

Speed is interesting. I've only had it happen slowing down to a stop or slowing down when going slow. I've seen a few others with that as well

Anyone have an inclination of a cause or a possible fix? I have a list of things I need the dealer to look at while I'm on vacation and I want this to be one of them.

@Ford Motor Company

1st post for the same reason. 2022 F150 XLT with an Oct 22 Dearborn build. Bought in March 23. 2800 miles. First cold night on graveyard that I drove the truck (normally commute with my Subaru) and it did it driving home that morning. Hard washboard like vibration felt through steering wheel and pedals. Backed off after a few moments and went to a slight vibration.

I normally keep the truck in my garage. I went to drive it to work tonight to see if it would do it again and I still feel the slight vibration even though temp is well above 30 today. Switched to 4h and disengaged it and it’s still there. Just parked it and went back for my Subaru. My ford dealer is a 45 minute drive and I can’t go until next week. Hope this doesn’t have any long term damage. And my real fear is the dealer not being able to “replicate” it and sending me home.

Add me to the list. Left front for me in 2wd coasting to a stop. Put it in 4A noise goes away.

Add another one to the list. 2023 XLT 5.0 started around 500 miles. Same conditions as described plenty of times already start within 50 feet of the same spot on cold mornings taking kid to school. Had it referenced on work ticket for engine replacement at 700 miles (another story).
