It hurts and more so becasue you were mindful. At least you know who and how it happened which helps in my recomendation of "Letting it go." Also if " mental growth issues " means young, Then God knows I did some monumentally dumb things in my trucks when I was young. If facebook existed back then ...... I plead the fifth.....

P.S. It's a truck. Dents and Dings are part of the story.

If that's what you read then maybe you are the dick. This is a large investment that I made after 18 years and have been maintaining it very carefully. This is also my first largest purchase and my first truck purchase. So any damage to it is sentimental. You should stop being so judgemental.
Thank you for proving my final point. I genuinely hope it all works out in the end.

Let it go. I know it’s painful but like others have said you yourself will possibly do something worse than that to your truck. I have had my brand new truck less than I year. I was backing my side by side trailer out of driveway before daylight one morning and heard a noise I pulled back up and because I pulled up I didn’t realize I’d jack knifed the trailer into truck. I got out and looked at truck And trailer didn’t see anything because it was dark. Later that morning when I was walking back to truck I noticed something under the taillight. I had put a pretty good dent and long scratch down side of truck. I felt sick about it. Before I’d noticed it I didn’t realize I’d jackknifed the trailer into truck. I don’t know how you use your truck but if you use it for truck stuff your gonna eventually do something to it. If you don’t fix it you will notice it every once in a while but it want hurt so bad when you look at it.

Hello All - thanks for the responses. As it is I had already decided to let it go based on the situation I shared about the guy. So I will move on now.

I have a 2024 F150 Powerboost XLT that I purchased in Jun 2024. Since the time I purchased the truck I have been driving it extremely carefully and been maintaining distance wherever I parked. Another relative of mine bought the same truck in Jun 2025.

Today we were all at a third relative's house. When I entered I saw his truck was parked and I slowly reversed mine and parked it a foot long away. It was a slope. So parking brakes were on. I asked him to reverse his truck a bit. Instead of reversing his truck, he drove forward and his license plate hit my fender. I was not at the scene. Once I found it I got incredibly upset because I see two very small dents as shown below. Seeing that I got upset the whole family came out. He says he did not realize he went forward when he intended to go back. My wife also faults me for asking him to back up instead of me parking a bit forward. The reason I did not park forward was because I wanted to give folks space to enter the driveway.

This particular relative also has some mental growth issues. So no one likes to be hard on him. I am incredibly upset because I have been maintaining the truck really carefully. Based on the picture below can I just keep it as is or does this need to be replaced. He says he will pay for it but I don't want to do so since he is on my inlaws side and also does not have stable job.

If you are really concerned about it you might be able to blow a hair dryer carefully over it to just warn it up and push it out from behind with a dull screwdriver.

The title had me curious... But I'm actually disappointed in myself for reading this whole thread. The damage is so minor it isn't even worth the effort we've all put into this. OP needs to realize that of he drives his truck then it is going to get some damage... It is inevitable. I think the frustration comes from the perception that it was preventable... But "preventable" always has 20/20 vision of hindsight. In the end... Shit happens and we are all just going through life waiting for the next thing to happen. We all try to minimize it and yet we also cannot stop it.

I think the first post shows the "minor" damage pics. Sorry you had to read the whole thread. You could have stopped with the first one.

You who parked bad, then put the blame on the other person. The fact you had to bring up their challenges in life get over yourself. I have much worse dings from driving my truck and road crap hitting it.

Read the thread. There was no parking bad. There was accomodations made for other cars to enter. Tell me you did not read it without telling me you did not read it.

Yes I read it. You squeezed in to leave room for driveway. Then blame the other person and bring up their challenges in life. They were parked first.

I do understand your posting this and have to add that you should just fix it yourself or let it go.

We all have these stories:
Had a friend that bought his first brand new vehicle and was afraid to take it anywhere. He parked it on the other side of the parking lot at work, all by itself. Sold it 3 months later because he couldn't deal with the pressure of keeping it nice.

I bought my first brand new car in 1991 and took it to a friends house the 2nd day I owned it. His kid was learning to ride a bike and ran into my drivers door and put a big scratch in it. Hadn't even made my first payment! I fixed it myself with paint repair pen. Looked like shit and I saw it every day for the next 15 years. That was not the only dent after 15 years, but the first one hurt.

My second brand new car is my current 2023 PB. I wash it myself and have found all kinds of stone chips in the hood and other panels. It happens.

Sorry you have to go through this, but time will let it become less painful.

maybe a bad picture because I don't see much damage. I always try to park far away from other cars. Take the extra time to walk a few more steps in a parking lot to prevent possible door dings or shopping cart hits. Maybe you should have parked a little further away from the other cars, what's a few more steps to walk.

OP - you are missing the point of the last few posts... You are 50% responsible for what happened. You made choices too. You recognized an issue with the parking situation but then tried to put it on the other person / people to work around that issue. He made a mistake trying to accommodate you and caused a tiny, tiny mark in some plastic. Take some responsibility and this thread would have a different tone from everyone's responses.

Yes, it sucks you have damage to your new truck and it's okay to be a little upset about that, but your ratio of being pissed (causing other family members to come out) was not proportional to the VERY minor "damage" that was caused.

Instead, your tone and justification for your frustration is that you are the good guy in every aspect of this. And your relative (whom you felt the need to point out has "mental growth issues") is the bad guy. The martyr-pity-tone of all your responses proves it. (First justification): You have a new truck that you waited 17 years to have, and it's your first truck .... Blah blah... lots of us work hard for something we want. (Second justification): You park your truck in an area that you saw was tight so you could be the good guy again by "allowing others to be able to squeeze in the driveway" too. (Third justification): You gave more good guy advice to the "mental growth issue" relative on how he could move his vehicle to accommodate your decisions, and an accident occurred (since you are 'going there'.... you did know who you were parking near, right?).

Geez, man... go take a look in the mirror and ask yourself what you could have done better, it's 50% your fault.
