Just to illustrate my point:
Most barebones Lariat build I could do. Lariat, Powerboost, and 4x4 were the only options selected:

Ford F-150 I have 2H/4H/4L, where is 4A? 149FB422-BE3A-4A04-B784-50B3470FA5E2

Even at 5% off MSRP, we’re looking at $53,646.
I will say, cheaper than I expected, but not $51,000 cheap.

Now any of those 3 dealers that were “name dropped” would have that at or very close to 51k today

don't you have different drive modes? turn it to slippery
this does nothing from a mechanical standpoint.
all it does is change the response from the accelerator.
changing modes on a 2spd TC will do nothing to change the characteristics of a mechanical lock between the front and rear drives.

Only lariat and upper trims have that. Sorry dude. But even if I had it I would leave it in 2h for gas consumption purpose.
Since the TOD 4A Transfer case only sends power to the front wheels when they sense slippage, there is very little impact on gas mileage.

Agreed. If the XLT had 4A, the 302A package would be super competitive. The perfect compromise between features and price.

As it stands though, it’s not worth the $10k or more jump in price to get 4A. And I don’t need blue cruise, RBG lights, and a folding shifter.

I do however, really like my 12” screen lol.
The xlt is already "super competitive" as it's the top selling trim level of the top selling vehicle in the county

Looking at things from a sales numbers standpoint isn't really useful here. We all know the F150 sells double what other brands sell.

The issue is about feature parity. GM and RAM trucks in their respective "XLT" trim levels have 4A. That is where they are more competitive. I'd rather Ford not take the "we sell more trucks so we can afford to be complacent" stance.

Should the competition, which is losing, dictate the Ford lineup though?

There are all kinds of things you have to step up to a Lariat to be eligible for, and different people would choose different ones to pull down if they could

4A
Bluecruise
Leather
Heated steering wheel
Power fold mirrors
LED projector headlights
Dual zone electric climate
Keyless entry and push button

Ford did choose to drop something down from this for 2021, but Iis Ram really who should dictate what else?

Complacent? Does ram have a 7200 watt generator available on their xlt? I'd rather Ford not just follow the leader and copy Ram.

But I also think 4a is the single best thing lariat and ip get

The more I think about it, as much as I love 4A and think it's the single best thing a lariat adds, I wonder if the "test drive impression" kept it form making the drop? Everyone testing cars at the lots would notice something like keyless entry, but 4A

I'd say selling so many more than the competition proves that 4A doesnt need to be there to be competitive, it's already winning

Ford already dropped the keyless entry and push button start whixh used to require a lariat, after Ram did similar. The sales figures tell us the xlt doesn't need more stuff making it fancier and more expensive, it's the volume seller within the f150 lineup already
I mean, you kinda just sidestepped my whole point which is that sales metrics are not as useful in a vehicle that we all know sells double the competition.

You don't maintain a lead by sitting on your hands.

Besides, this is an easy win for ford. Their TOD transfer case hardly costs more than the regular transfer case. All their 4x4 trucks are pre-wired for 4A. They could even make it another option for the XLT and upcharge $1 - 2k more for it, and people would pay it. Maybe make it a part of the "FX4" package.

The other things you mentioned:

Bluecruise
Leather
Heated steering wheel
Power fold mirrors
LED projector headlights

Those are the things I think are what most people are really after when they are looking at the Lariat trim. I bet most people don't even notice 4A. They notice the shiney new gadgets and the leather seats.

Ford does surveys with their customers. If the lack of 4A in the XLT trim was losing Ford a bunch of sales or it was a huge feature XLT owners wanted I'm sure Ford would address the issue.

I've yet to get a survey.

I keep saying over and over again that this isn't about sales, as that metric is irrelevant on F-150. It's about feature parity to maintain that lead.

Regarding your statement about such a survey on what XLT owners want, I'm sure we could both make wild guesses about what those surveys actually say. If Ford asked me if I wanted an XLT option to mount an optional IR-Guided SAM launcher, I would definitely say "yes" (Lariat and above get the Active RADAR guided launcher option, also compatible with Bluecruise).

I think it's more accurate that Ford simply chooses to lock this feature out of the XL and XLT lineup to push people to the higher trims where they make their best margins.
