Anyone have any idea how the HVAC auto temperature should work? The manual doesn’t get specific. I set to 68° and it blasts hot air out of the side defroster but not to the floor as expected. It gets so warm that I have to turn it down to 62°, but then I freeze. Shouldn’t it automatically direct heat to the floor? If I try to change where the heat comes out it switches from automatic mode to manual mode.

There are several posts / threads on this forum regarding the Ford "Auto" HVAC system. For the most part, the posts are people opining how bad the system is, and to which, I agree. I have another car that has an "Auto" HVAC system, and it works beautifully - you rarely have to change anything on it. The Ford system is not like that all - it can be frustrating and annoying. I determined that the best way to approach it is to not even treat it like an "Auto" system. I operate it in manual mode, and I'm always comfortable.

To change where the air is directed (feet, windshield, vents), press this button:

And you should get a graphic on your Sync4 screen where you can then make a selection using the touchscreen. However, it is possible that the above description could vary depending upon your trim level.

I do use that button to change the outlet but it turns of the auto mode. I guess Ford’s auto temp is another non-feature feature. How do they get away with this ?

All I can say is that your system acts differently than mine. On mine, to engage Auto, I have to press the Auto button. With the exception of raising or lowering the temperature, once in Auto, it stays in Auto. If I press anything else, change the fan speed, change the air flow direction, or anything else, it kicks it out of Auto, and into manual.

auto in my 13 f150 and 16 expedition worked pretty much with out any issues
even had tons of air flow
the expedition would flat run you out in the cold air parts. having the rear ac / heat unit was perfect

my 21 f250 and the 22 f150 both are not near as good in auto and air flow is pretty sparse IMO, but at least in the 22 150 they fixed the poor foot air flow like we had in the 21 f250

i use the manual mode now
i select temp and then set either out the defrost vents, or floor or face

if you select defrost vents, it does blow some on the floor

then i adjust air flow or volume with the fan speed
but usually, except in SUMMER in a parked hot car.. i will keep fan not higher than 3 for the most part

i have noticed in my truck and my dad maverick, even if you have for example 70F set for warmth and fan at 1... if outside creeps in and truck cant stay warm at fan speed 1, it will by itself ramp up fan speed, then you have to turn it back down
i discovered this by happenstance.
