Are you sure about the 5.0 with the 2kw? I’m certain it’s only in the EcoBoost engines

I think it’s the other way around bud
All engine except the 3.3 have the 2.0kw. I ordered my 5.0 with the 2.0kw. So you do not look at the ford website?

The second that you ordered is exactly the copy of the one i ordered on march 17. Lariat 5.0 501A, 18 in tires, no max tow, 360 camera, bed liner, power tailgate, 3.73 4x4, blue velocity. I actually own a 2015 3.5 eco. I choose the 5.0 because all that years i missed the rumble of the V8. The 3.5 tow great and i never had an issue. But i tow about 6500lbs. So i like better to have the sound instead of the full power. By the way i drove the V8 and i can tell you that i will not miss the 3.5 power. For my needs.

Awesome, looks like a nice truck! I highly doubt ill need the max tow either, thats why i didnt have it on my second order.. But when i decided the 3.5L was the one for me then having added the max tow on that one already just seemed like a bonus. For resale i guess if nothing else. I only made the second order because i thought i wanted a V8. It was nice to have the option and time to think it over as both trucks were built specifically for me. Just my luck i chose the first one which means i will have it much sooner as well! Have you received your truck yet BTW?

You did right going with the 3.5 AND Max Trailer Tow Package. ??

Ordering the Regular Trailer Tow Package ($1,090) 36 Gallon Tank ($445) and 3.55 Elocker ($470) separately costs more than the Max Trailer Tow Package ($1,995) And you get more than just those 3 things with the Max Trailer Tow Package. It's a no brainer ?

Not receive yet. Suppose to be on factory line by august 10 my dealer told me. You won't regret your 3.5 ecoboost. Just do well with the turbos because it puuuullll hard and it is very funny. But you know the more you "turbos" the higher it drinks. I'll do 15 to 16 liters by 100km. Easily more when flooring or in winter. If i drive like a pappy i can hit 13/100km

Ya, I'll go through gas with any vehicle. I like to press the pedal. Ive even read the V8 gets better real world milage. But its probably really close. And although i plan to keep this for a long time history would tell me i may trade it in before the warranty is even up. Or especially before major issues at high milage so reliability isnt even very high on my radar.. I probably just jinxed everything and getting a gas guzzling lemon now.... And at least my truck will play me a soundtrack of your engine when im driving.. Just gonna tell my friends i have a turbo V8. They have no clue.

My opinion (not that it matters) would be to take the 5.0. Reading it sounds like you are like me and need something shiny and new every couple years. The 3.5 will be around for a long time IMO. The 5.0 maybe not so much longer. The writing is on the wall that Ford is going to move away from V8 F150s. So if I were you I would take less options to have a 5.0 before you can't get a new one and then get your 3.5 optioned out.

I hear ya. I was thinking the same. V8s are a dying breed.. but I do believe with fords history theyll keep it around as long as possible. Either way im more of a 'against the grain' sorta guy so the fact that nearly every truck on the road is a V8, minus some of the fords its intriguing to have something 'different'. And i swear im just fine in the penis department but something about being one of the fastest trucks on the road is a little intriguing too... Toyota is moving to twin turbos and others shouldnt be long to follow suit. If electric doesnt take over first. So when that happens, maybe ill trade with someone for their V8 so i can be in the minority again.. Until then, ill just be that weed whacker ripping past the V8s. I can live with that. Its definitely a good arguement though. Its also hard to beat the fact that the 3.5 will be here like 4 months sooner.. Im also not the biggest car/truck guy in the world as in knowledge on mechanics so hearing the words V8 and Twin Turbo, my eyes light up more to the sound of turbos.. Might be different if i drove trucks all my life but i guess this is why ford gives options. Good on them for that!

5L vs 3.5 is really down to personal preference. I have owned a lot of foreign cars so I like having the turbo charger, as it's pretty normal for me and I know (from experience) that you need to change your oil on schedule with a boosted vehicle. I could see a lot of traditional truck buyers liking the V8 sound and feel, and it's not going to be as finicky with maintenance.

I think the 2KW is a bit gimmicky, the stock 400W option is fine for charging phones or running a light. I rather spend the money on a portable generator, you can get a decent quiet 2KW generator for $500-700 new and it would stay at your campsite in-case someone needs to make a beer run or whatever instead of leaving with your truck. 7.2KW would be useful for people doing real day-to-day construction work out of their truck, so I don't think it falls into the same argument.

I have a 2020 5.0 S-crew. I test drove a 3.5 at the same time, and wow that was a sweet engine, climbing the hills of our test drive with such smooth torque. And even though it was about a 10-mile test loop, the truck readout told me the 3.5 was getting 2mpg better than the 5.0. I wound up getting the 5.0 because between those 2 I test drove, the 5.0 example had all the equipment I wanted, and the 3.5 didn’t. But I LOVE my 5.0, and I pulled 20mpg on a 10-hour drive, fully loaded w 4 adults and a packed bed full of 4x more stuff than we really needed.
One thing that scares me about the 2021 5.0… maybe the 3.5 has this too, I don’t know. And I don’t want to sound like that anti-Ford fear-monger Scotty on the YouTubes… but they moved to a wet, belt-driven oil pump. Meaning, the belt turning the oil pump is in the oil pan. This seems a terrible idea.

Very solid arguements for the on board power. If youre powering your campsite and have to leave for a bit, there goes the power. Never thought of that. And in Canada its a $1300 add on. Right about being better off with a real generator. And also right about engine preference, the V6 doesnt sound like a V8 because it is a turbo V6. And in its own respect, sounds good for a turbo V6.. So by driving both, (For the first time) my preference ended up being the turbos. But i respect anyone wanting the V8 for their own preference. Im telling you, I almost chose the V8 becuase of what I read. But im glad i chose the 3.5L because of what I experienced. Makes you much more confident in choosing what you want/need.. Thanks for the insights!

For what i use my truck for, honestly any of the engines would have probably been fine. Until my lifestyle changes a little. But I think its so great that Ford actually has so many choices and they all have their own advantages. Im not overly car savvy but i dont think any other manufacturer has anything like that... So ill never argue with someone over which engine is best for them. Just happy we can all get what we specifically need or want. As far as the oil pump, again not car savvy but my logic tells me you are probably right about it not being a good idea to move it where they did.. I did not know this, but i dont fully understand it either so i guess that doesnt bother me.. haha! Its great to hear you love yours though. Thats what matters!

Honesty I’m sure the 2.7 would suffice for me. I don’t tow, I just needed an overly roomy vacation vehicle I can drive on the beach, full-grown family and dog, etc. I haul light stuff like brush, etc. but no heavy loads. And I don’t see on Fuelly that the PowerBoost is getting much better MPG than the 2.7, certainly not for thousands of $$ more.
