Hi, I'll start by mentioning I currently drive a 2019 2.7 ecoboost XLT. I have ordered 2 new 2021's (You'll understand why) and I need to decide which I want.

So my first order - 02/25/21

Space White, Supercab, 4x4, XLT
3.5L Ecoboost, 302A High, FX4, Sport package, Max Tow, 360 camera, work surface, B&O sound, spray in, wheel liners, Tow mirrors, 20" 6 spoke black wheels.

So this was one of those orders that got pretty delayed from the kansas shut down. It was built on june 26th and ETA is Aug. 22. So i figure i have until about then to make up my mind. I asked my buddy at the dealership mid june if we could order another to see if it come faster... But really i wanted to change one major thing.. He agreed. So on 06/16/21 I made another order for the same truck with a few changes. Which are :

5.0L V8, 2KW onboard power, 3.73 locking, NO FX4, NO Max tow, 18" standard whatever wheels.

So I made the change because I think I want a truck that sounds bad ass. Or do I want a truck that can be tuned easily and fast as hell? I dont know.. I already have 20" rims and tires and performance shocks ready to go on so that was the main reason for the FX4 and 20" wheel delete. And I've never towed but planning on towing a boat or like 18' trailer at some point of owning so figure Max Tow wasnt necessary..The 2KW power is not a game changer but something i didnt think to add the first time. Probably be handy once and a while. So my overall question is which one would you choose? And dont say whatever will work best for me please. Both will be great. So it has to come down to what everyone else thinks is coolest... Thanks for reading ?

I personally would go with the first option in the space white FX4, Max Tow and Tow Mirror is a must! I didn’t think I would need it/want it but man I’m so glad I did. Also, assuming it’s the 302a high, I believe it will also have the inverter in the back. The 5.0 is not offered with the 2kw inverter… or so I thought?

You can't get the 7.2KW but im sure we added the 2kw on the 5.0. And i believe the 3.5L i ordered has just a 400W plug in the bed. I think ive come to the conclusion that the 3.5L is the better truck overall but it would be all about the sound of the V8... Is it worth it? It will most likely arrive about 3 months after the 3.5..
Side note : the V8 is slighlty more expensive too because i got some discounts on the first order..

Are you sure about the 5.0 with the 2kw? I’m certain it’s only in the EcoBoost engines

I think it’s the other way around bud

Tuning unfortunately hasn’t been cracked yet for either engine, and with the encrypted ecu’s and the over the air updates may cause serious delays for any reputable tuners..

Im still getting the ecoboost, but will just have to patiently wait to crank it up. Intercooler right now is gonna be the best power added at this point.

The first one is the better "business" decision and you can easily brag about its capabilities over a beer with you buds. Your challenge is to understand your emotional connection to the sound. For me, I just get a kick out of hearing the engine. On my car (MB AMG) I upgraded to a factory performance exhaust system. I could never justify the extra dollars based on the specs, but it still makes smile every time I fire it up. You don't want to make the smart decision, and then have to remind yourself every day that it was the smart decision. The good thing is neither choice will be a bad decision.

The 2.4 and 7.2 are PowerBoost only. The 2.0 can be on the regular EcoBoost or V8.

What you need to do is buy both and combine them to make the right truck ?. Take the pro power from the V8 truck and add it to your original order and then you’ll have the perfect setup.

If it were me I’d stick with the first one. The sound of turbos whistling is way cooler than the V8 anyway.

I was thinking this exactly. I realize the first one is the 'Better' truck and the more I think about it, Im the type of guy that needs something different every 5 years or so. I think the ecoboost with max tow will have higher resale, or easier resale anyway... Not sure if thats true.. I was shocked, i thought most ppl would say get the second truck. So far every single person ive asked said the first one. Im 37 years old, i guess it may be time to make the right decision instead of the 'fun' decision. And look at me, calling a 400hp with 510lbs torque twin turbo 'no fun'. Lol. Im sure ill be very happy with it. And when the tunes start coming out for it, well i think ill be having a lot of fun in it.. Really appreciate the input! Thanks!

I do love the turbo whistle on my 2.7 right now.. I keep thinking it would be cool the get the same motor as a mustang GT though! But then why don i just buy a mustang? Lol. You as well as everyone else is helping me stay grounded and ultimatley make the smarter decision, thanks! I definitely wish I had thought to add the pro power to the first order but I dont think its a deal breaker. Sure, itll be one of those things you dont think you need until you need it, but i deal with that moment when it comes...

Aftermarket exhaust makers are coming out with systems for the Eco-boost and the sound clips sound promising.
