There is another thread where people said their AC defaults to recirculate. I couldn’t believe this as I’ve never had a vehicle the defaulted that way. I started playing around with mine and I’ll be danged if mine didn’t start defaulting to recirculate. Here’s what I found…..

If you touch the “max air“ OR “recirculate“ button it WILL default to recirculate. All you need to do is push the “auto” button and “max air” and/or “recirculate will turn off and WON‘T default back to recirculate UNTIL you push the ”max air” or “recirculate button again. Does it have to stay on “auto”? Great question! The answer is NO! For instance, push the “auto” button then fan speed up or down which takes out out of ”auto” and it still WON’T default back to “recirculate”. But what if I live in a hot ass place like the Sahara Desert? Another great question! I live in the hottest place on earth, TEXAS, and mine never defaulted to recirculate this summer. Check out the video.

Is there a reason you wouldn't want recirc on? I have mine on all the time. The temp in the car cools down faster and I don't have random smells attacking the inside all the time.

There are plenty that dont like it due to the moisture buildup causing moldy rag smell at startup. I don’t use it unless there’s a bad smell outside. Why listen to the added noise when AC is quieter and just fine? Don’t get me wrong, living in Texas and jumping inside on a 100 degree plus day, max air works great for me then!

For moisture during recirculate on, I just turn on the AC. It will act as a dehumidifier even if its not cooling down the cab. Sure, mpg might drop but its seem like an insignificant drop.

@OP - Thank you for this video! Coming on two years of ownership in December, I just learned that there is a "MAX A/C" button in my truck. Thank you for that!

Now, I am a little confused. Let's use "Circulation ON" and "Circulation OFF" because I think I know what you meant but watching the video didn't seem to solve the problem.
I use AUTO 99.9% of the times and I have never seen the Circulation turns ON, even in the most humid of days (I live in SC which is very humid in the summer).
I thought that you found a way to make the system "remember" your Circulation button status, meaning - if I turn it on manually, it will remain on next time I start the car, but I don't think that's the case from watching your video, hence the confusion.

Thank you for this post. I am one of those people who find the default to recirculate annoying, so it is nice that it is selectable. I've never owned a vehicle that didn't get the musty smell when recirculate was on even with the AC on.

That is the case actually. As soon as you hit recirculate or max air, the system will default to that every time UNTIL you hit auto. Once you hit auto your system will default to NOT turning on recirculate.

Got ya. Well, if that's the case, this is the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

I could be wrong, but my assumption is most use recirculate with AC. I don’t know of circumstances why you’d want to recirculate inside air without being conditioned.

If anyone catches me without the recirculate button ON, kill me and put me out of my misery. My biggest gripe with this truck is when the truck turns it off and I smell the nasty outside air and have to turn it back on.

Twice today, once on the way to work and again on the drive home, truck turned off recirculate right as a nasty trash truck was ahead of me on a two lane road. Not only could I smell it, I could taste it too. Had to brush my teeth both times. F'n disgusting.

That is as a result of the cabin air refresh timer in the HVAC module... it is muck-around-able in FORScan, although I haven't played with it yet as I love the fresh country air (I only do country drives) and only use recirculate when following diesels with dying engines, animal carting trucks and dust clouds from the vehicle in front ?
