Sorry if this has been covered but does the truck need to be connected to Wi-Fi to update?
I thought so, but appears maybe not, just need a good enough signal on the cellular modem that’s built into the truck.

Thanks ? if I had one complaint about sync it’s that everytime I get in my truck the big and little screens are on a different setting- audio, CarPlay, navigation, and lately the eco efficiency setting. I’ve also tried to disconnect my phone from the truck and turned off blue tooth yet it still connects. Maybe I just need to play around with it some more

Went to airbnb, connected to wifi. No updates found. Ill keep rescheduling the automatic for the next day. This is a 2021 with no updates done.
I am in a similar position to you with no Ford warranty or backup being in the UK. Have Dec 21 ordered, Oct 21 built Lariat 5.0 which was delivered Feb22. Can park near to house and link to WiFi but have never had an update. Screen shows system up to date. Running Software version :21223 Revision :197. Can not get Fordpass to register either. App shows the truck and vin ok but upon trying to force a link opt out that Ford UK does not recognise Vin. Not sure if an AT&T subscription is needed for it to register or if a wifi connection is adequate. If subscription is not a necessity another idea would be to get the house modem and phone working on a US VPN ans see if it would link that way. How are people using Fordpass and updates in Canada or is it all on a comparable network to the US.

sorry to hear. At least I get warranty and recalls ar local Ford dealers (due to large amount of Americans in the area probably). They are very slow, though.

I wanted to try that, but my wifi doesn’t reach where I park.

Another update, since it says ballpark two hours, gonna manual start/update now instead of 2 AM, hopefully Truck is closer to blue cruise:

2.8.1 went through, so in theory, according to Wikipedia, BlueCruise should be enabled on next OTA update 2.8.2:

No that's not 100% correct. You can be completely disconnected from wifi and still receive updates as long as the truck's cell modem gets good enough signal. I got an OTA pushed to me while I was in another state on vacation not connected to any wifi. Meanwhile my truck sits on very strong wifi at home and has never gotten an OTA pushed there.

Good to know, didn’t realize they could do the updates over the cell signal, I’ll go correct that post.

A little off topic - I am hoping/assuming us lonely non Blue Cruse trucks will get OTA's once the majority of the Blue Cruse trucks are updated. I am at 2.3.0 since March 1st. Totality understand Ford wanting to get the Blue Cruse working that people paid for way back when.

You are on a blue cruise road, but not one that allows hands free. I.e. our main highway here (US 27 in FL) has blue cruise, but because it's a normal highway that is a bit curvy and has lights, my assumption is that it requires your hands on the wheel still.

If I'm on a back road and turn on the cruise control, I don't get that alert anymore.

This might be a little extreme, and I'm not sure it would work or be registerable but you could create an ATT network which runs through your internet connection with an AT&T Cell Booster - https://www.att.com/buy/accessories/Specialty-Items/att-cell-booster.html

But I think you're better off purchasing the $500 dongle and an FDRS subscription and doing the updates manually over the wire.
