I think that some of the QC issues we are seeing are due to this “partially finished” problem. Trucks leave the line but I’m not sure that they can be given a final inspection until they are ready to ship.
Now you have some trucks leaving the line for shipment and some for indefinite bird poop hold. You also have trucks that have 1/2 dead batteries and that have been sitting for months coming for final inspection . I’m sure it’s a problematic process for the workers and inspectors…and then we get trucks needing a personal inspection due to inconsistent factory checks.

I still am interested to hear an insider’s info regarding chip allocations. What percentage goes to held trucks vs line trucks, and what vehicle is given priority?
So the parts are suppose to be assigned to specific Vins so that there isn’t any robbing of parts. Especially since each truck is so different. Hence when trucks get put on hold they are still waiting for their parts. Then when their parts come in you still have to wait to be installed and tested

Yea, that’s essentially what the tear tag is for, right?

But say 100 chips come in. They are going to produce 40 trucks that day needing chips. Do they give 10 to new trucks that day, save 30 for the rest of the week, 30 to 2022 trucks needing chips, and 30 to 2023 trucks needing chips? Or do they give 75% to trucks off the line and split the other 25% for offsite trucks?

It just seems like not that many offsite trucks are getting changed to built but I keep seeing a lot of trucks getting built in two days. It’s like once the truck is sent offsite, it’s kind of forgotten about until they have a surplus of chips for the day.

It’s JIT manufacturing. So everything that comes in is assigned a vin. The whole idea is when they assign you a blend date that all the parts are accounted for. They usually don’t have extras. So I am missing a IPC and that’s probably because they didn’t make it to them on time so they just go on with the build and once it’s produced, not built, they push it off to the side till that part comes in. Then the problem is if it’s a lot of vehicles they have trouble getting them back in to finish them. Just like all of the powerboosts that were missing IPC during the month of august. So they sit. Then there was the badges on a lot of later august and September build that were pushed off to the side but could be fixed out on the lots so those got finished faster. They don’t ever seem to stop the manufacturing line except as of lately because they have such a huge backup of vehicles that are my22. In all the other chip holds I’ve seen from earlier builds they never stopped the lines.

Also I have been on chip hold for so long that I have had way to much time to research all of this?

This is the first time I’ve seen it mentioned where people/work capacity are the choke point, which I hadn’t thought of until reading this post and it’s an incredibly valid point. Even if they get in 10000 chips in one day, how long does it take to drive from lot to lot to install them? They aren’t taking the entire assembly line and using every single person to install chips. It’s usually just a few people on a “campaign”

And depending on the module or part needing to be installed, it’s likely there’s some disassembly required as well

I guess I’m not phrasing my confusion correctly. So parts are assigned a VIN….if they don’t have parts, the truck is just pushed through. I understand that.
But now we are seeing vehicles get shipped that are produced after others but with the same part requirements. So why would a part be assigned a VIN for a 11/13 truck when there is an 8/22 truck needing the part…that could leave the lot of doom if that part was assigned to it?

What you’re saying makes sense to me if there weren’t vehicles sitting needing parts that newer vehicles need as well. JIT relies on a steady and reliable supply chain which was broken…but who makes the decision to assign a new VIN to a part that is needed by an old VIN? Are they essentially deciding that it’s more efficient to push as many completed trucks off the line rather than complete old trucks waiting on parts and hope the customers don’t drop the order?

Not only that if it’s an intricate part that needs programming and probably needs to make it back in to where they do all the programming and quality tests

It doesn’t mean that the parts for the older trucks are not in. It just now means how do they get those parts into the old trucks without stopping the assembly line.

I assumed these trucks were more of a lot/warehouse type fix rather than going down the line. It seems like it would be impossible to run them down the line a second time.
This would explain all of the QC issues, electrical gremlins, battery failures, etc

My truck was actually missing the instrument panel cluster. I don’t think that is a lot fix. I also don’t think it runs down the line again. Just maybe somewhere in the plant for assembly and programming.

Blackout, My abandoned truck is still missing the IPC since 08/09. All of the potential quality control issues that comes with final production that is competed in a remote storage lot was a added reason to walk away. After my experience with all of Fords lies, I will never buy a Ford product. At one point I though about reordering a MY23 from Granger. Not happening with the heated steering wheel delete. I see that Ford is starting to screw over MY23 retail customers. Deja vu!! I hope your truck is flawless when it shows

Sadly, it seems that new orders coming down the line are given priority for parts in limited supply instead of prior orders that are sitting out in the parts purgatory lots.

One of the threads had a guy who had his truck delivered and then it was missing the cluster, then the truck went on hold at the dealer and the factory is requesting it back for more issues
