I just scheduled my 2024 Lariat in to a local dealer for a what appears to be a very benign notice I got in the Ford app.

They asked me if I want a rental car? I told them that I was expecting to just wait.

Since it is a warranty thing, they have to get clearance to fix the issue which can take a day or two?

I have the extended warranty coverage through Granger that gives me the free rental,, but I didn't get the first day coverage, which I thought was only for dropping then picking my car up the same day?

If I go there and they say it has to be kept overnight, do I have to pay for my first day of rental. The scheduler didn't seem to know.

Interested to know how this plays out.

My reading of the ESP tells me that the 1st day is covered if they must keep the vehicle overnight, even without 1st day coverage. IOW, I read that 1st day coverage only applies when the dealer takes and releases the vehicle on the same day.

I could be wrong (again!)

Please keep us posted.

my dealer just gives me one as a courtesy regardless of if the work is covered by warranty or not. no extended warranty.

Can't they get clearance and then make an appointment?

It depends on the dealer. Some dealers here, like the one 10 min from my house, won't provide a loaner or rental no matter what. Others, like the one 30 min from my house, will provide one if you schedule out with them.

My 4 month old truck is currently at the dealer because of a faulty connector underneath the manifold for the #3 injector. I was told Ford will pay for up to 10 days of a free rental, in my case from Enterprise, which they set up, and drove me to them. Of course they didn't have the part in stock, but should have received it yesterday, and maybe I'll get it back today. Today is day 4.
I bought the extended 10 year warranty as well, but it doesn't kick in until the factory warranty is up. At least that's my understanding. Oh, and I got the car day one, so maybe it is the dealer.

Our area Dealers have courtesy drivers to take you home and bring you back. Started in the shutdown. They also have mobile mechanics trucks to do minor repairs at your home.

We have 2 vehicles and are retired now so we are more flexible than those working.

Just FYI, if that's the Genuine Ford Premium Care ESP, it overlaps / coordinates with your OE warranties from in-service day 1.

IOW, any rental provisions in the ESP will apply for warranty repairs even if the repair is 'charged' to one of the still-in-effect OE warranties (B-to-B, powertrain, etc).

This is a very generous dealer you got . My 2022 F150 Transmission died i think around 20k miles and it was a nightmare getting ford to give me rental. If you ask me its BS they make me buy an ESP for a rental in a truck which is still under warranty just to get a rental without going through so much back and forth. GM doesn't play these games, if your under warranty you get a rental no questions asked.

So, I have had a lot of experience with Ford warranties over the past 4 years ... First, my dealer is really good about doing the work without much fuss and generally doing a good/great job on the repairs. But, according to my dealer, Ford will ONLY reimburse a rental IF you rent a Ford (they are really strict about this one). So, the dealer does not have any loaners and uses the local Enterprise which is about 2 blocks away - and all of their Ford rentals are complete CRAP. Escapes and Edges with 50,000 miles, bald tires, dirty windows and bad alignment ... they do have a few F150s but they are complete base model XTL - so super skinny tires on tiny wheels, half hanging (broken) wind air dam on the front - just trashed - and again over 40,000 miles. So that is the downside from my dealer.
