The thread seems to imply that it only relates to the 2024 .
I’m thinking a permanent fix would be a raised air intake (snorkel as we call them ) and back that up with an upgraded cold air intake , albeit an expensive alternative .
It can’t hurt to cut out that section though
yeah, but a lot of the tuner guys say that the extra area helps with airflow for all years. I didn’t cut mine. My sales guy got me the part called out in the TSB so I just replaced it. It is a stiffer material.

So the Cobb stiffener really doesn’t solve this issue. What it does is it replaces the pushpins that hold the air intake. The reinforcement plate has a nut plate underneath it and uses bolts to hold down the air in the scoop. If you will it’s kind of a related deal but at the same time it’s slightly different.

Thanks for all the info . You’ve been extremely helpful and I appreciate it . ?

@Seafog2023F150 Simon, it sounds like you have one of the Ford Australia imported F-150s which have been converted by RMA. At some point during the conversion, they sprayed a black substance all over the undercarriage. Whether it's soundproofing (unlikely) or a form of rust protection or something else, the problem is they have sprayed it all over the exhaust system.

It has been reported across multiple Facebook groups that when hot, it has a bad smell but after some few hundreds or thousands of kilometres it finally burns away.

You will find that the water dripping also comes from the muffler and anywhere else there are weep holes in the exhaust system. It is a normal by-product of the catalytic converter function, and when your exhaust reaches a high enough temperature to vaporise the water, the exhaust will "dry up". This has also been discussed many times on facebook, but many get surprised by it.

The best thing you could do for your truck is to take it on long drives if possible. That will resolve the smell and the water (while harmless) situation.

Thanks Chris . That sounds like more good info . The forum has been a great source of knowledge . I’ve just clocked 50,000kms . I don’t think the smell is as bad as in the beginning .
The advice on improving the cold air intake sounds like good advice even if not related to this smell . As I’ve noted there’s no temp increase on any guages .

Thanks Chris . Good info and highly likely . I don’t think the smell is as bad as in the beginning . I’ve done 50,000kms now so hopefully should see it settle further . I think the advice on improvements to the cold air intake are good as well , can’t hurt .
The constant production of water in the exhaust has taken some getting used to .
There’s a lot more access to after market in the US that ends up blowing out with shipping but that might improve as we see more on the road here .
thanks again !

Hot oil smell can also result from trans fluid expanding if hot and escaping the vent. My 2021 PB has had several episodes of pushing fluid out, first time set off the exit highway message and covered the trailer. Heat exchanger and solenoid assembly changed, did it again a couple of times, always towing light loads. So right before trans wnty went out I rented a trailer and loaded it with 12,000# and towed it to the highest point in Georgia. NADA. Hasn't happened since, but anything connected to the trans computer is always suspect. My list of issues is 118,000 miles long now.

Odd, that's what I've seen. When towing a loaded trailer there was no indication of overheat. One time I went over South Pass in Wyoming east to west, one adult with little other load. I had put the transmission in manual and set the gear to stay off the turbos (#7). The transmission overheated and dumped about a pint out the vent.

The random nature of my trans overheating events defies logic. Once going up Brasstown Bald (the aforementioned high point in Ga.) with only four aboard it puked trans fluid. And that after the HE/solenoid was replaced. Probably another software lapse.

Is there any indication of overheating on the guages when this happens ?

Last try, First time no because I had set the trans temp to boost. Later events mainly yes. All towing light<4000# loads
