New F150 owner here… Trying my best to take care of the truck and wanted to ask how well is it going over potholes/railroad tracks… I’m over in Ohio right now and some of the roads are less than desirable… I’m used to slowing down when going over railroad tracks given that I owned a car for 14 years, but today I discovered railroad tracks that had potholes inside the railroad tracks as you go over them. It was pretty much impossible to avoid as I had somebody right behind me so I slowed down, but I can’t come to a stop and have people crashing into me when I go over the railroad tracks.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated thanks!

I usually drive fast enough to jump over the tracks.

You just have to try to avoid them or you're stuck hitting them. Not much else can be done.

Would you suggest getting an alignment or is that something you do only if you feel the wheel pulling to one side or the other?

Alignment shouldn't get messed up unless you really nailed it. I wouldn't worry about it unless it's obviously pulling to one side. You can always mention it at your next service appointment so they pay extra attention to odd tire wear.

OK then good no I should be fine. I slowed down to like 7 to 10 mph. It’s probably because I’m used to a car’s suspension vs. a truck suspension. Truck suspension kinda shakes back-and-forth and is a little more bouncy/active when going over bumps I’m noticing which I’m fine with it just takes so I’m getting used to and maybe makes things that I go over feel worse than they actually are.

I'm sure you're fine. I turned into a 3-4" curb at like 15-20mph on a dog leg corner to avoid a dump truck from hitting me head on because he went over center and my truck was fine. If it's driving ok then you're probably good.

WTF!! Wow ok then I should be fine lol That’s intense. I’m glad you survived that one. How’s your truck doing after that?

It's fine. I have 22" inch rims so I'm sure those didn't help the impact, but there's no issues.

The best way to check that is to turn off lane assist and let go of the wheel. I’ve hit potholes pretty fast, no problem whatsoever. Remember these trucks are meant to do this since they are off-road capable (to an extent) and the bigger the tire, the more the tire takes the impact.

Ok great tip. That’s exactly the kind of stuff I’m looking for. Little things to know like this are helpful to diagnose all/double check things.

Lane assist pulls you like a ….. yeah let's leave it like that so I don’t get banned but turn that off and try on multiple roads. Some roads may be uneven and curve to one side.
