Coming from a 5.4L/3.73 with the 6R80 in the Expedition my 2023 F-150 5.0L/3.31 feels alot lighter on it’s feet and fast off the line. I think it depends what you come from lol. Compared to my aunts 6.2L Denali I can definitely feel the torque deficit down low, but it makes up for that with the crazy power up top. My 5.0 will run the 6.2 down once I let her spin.
You should go drive a powerboost w/ a 4a trans. 570ftlbs at 3200 RPM w/ 3.73s. Doesn't make much noise, but that's one of the nice parts about it :) -- w/ a tune they're ~550hp / 700tq. No bolt-ons, no exhaust or intake, just loads of weeeeee. :devilish:

A 3.31 ratio is sort of a highway gear compared to a 3.73, but with gears 1 & 2 on the 10R80 being so low, your starting gear is still lower than an old 6R80 3.73 truck anyway.

Gearing is a slippery slope with no give, a 3.15 for example will have the worst off the line, but the best highway passing performance. Police cruisers used for chases often run A lower numerical (higher or taller ratio) for a pursuit vehicle a 3.15 or 3.31 is perfect. For a drag car you want a 3.73 or 4.10 for the instant off the line. However, those higher numerical gears (lower) suffer for top end performance and do not make agood pursuit car/highway passer.

For example, Ford selected a 3.31 ratio for the 5.0L Coyote powered Mustang Dark Horse R going to Le-Mans in 2024 instead of 3.73 since the race is about top end performance/ speed and not the launch. But for towing a trailer? 3.73 makes that task a bit nicer.

You will see 2 versions of the 5.0L Coyote at Le-Mans 24 in 2024 running in the GT3 and GT4 circuits. A lot of reason for Ford fans to watch next year.

Well my truck will be a hwy truck for the most part anyway so I guess I'm good with that. It's quick has decent off the line (for me atleast ) and higher speed passing and such is great. Might tow a small 5x7 trailer once a blue moon. Lol.

I'd like to get exhaust. I do like the way it sounds factory especially the way it is silent when just cruising. Maybe just a muffler change for better breathing but I'd definitely still want it silent when cruising

I traded in my 2021 STX 3.5 eco boost lead foot gray for an XLT Avalanche gray 5.0… although I loved the eco boost, this 5.0 is amazing! Hard not peel out everytime lol.

I have a 5.0 with 3.31 gears. Not the quickest off the line but real nice from 50 on up in sport mode.
And you’ll get better mileage than those of us with 3.73, I’m sure of that! Some folks have quoted 24-26mpg or better on road trips, pretty impressive for a 1.5ton brick with a 5L engine!

I have 3.73 and on a long, flattish trips (which is kinda hard where we live!) I can get around 20-22mpg but around town usually 17-18.
Still, I’ve been super impressed with the engine and how smooth it is. Enjoy!
