Last month I upgraded my battery and increased the size to an H8. The thought has only now occurred to me... Do I need to make any changes through FORScan to make the truck aware of the battery size upgrade? (Yes, the BCM was re-set when I installed the battery.) Are there modules that are are affected by battery size? Please pardon my ignorance. (Just for the record, note that I am not talking about increasing the factory SOC level from 80%.)

From what I gathered in reading all of the spreadsheet data for the BCM, battery size is not configurable in the 14th gen. Others will correct me if I'm wrong.

You could change 726-04-01 to XXXX 2020 XX--. I also did the H8 upgrade and made this change but did not notice any significant changes. In fact, I recently checked voltage on my battery and it was 11.99V. After putting the NOCO on it for a few hours and charging it up to full, I ran a small errand and checked it after sitting overnight and it was back at 12.2V. I had the SOC target set to 90% but that doesn't seem to have an impact either. I've just reset everything back to stock and changed the battery type to "Flooded" to see if that has any impact on keeping the battery at a higher SOC. I'll be reporting my findings in the thread below. Also some good info regarding the H8 upgrade there including the background/research on the 726-04-01 change I mentioned above.

Thank you. Your answer is considerably more precise than my question! We'll see if anyone corrects you on this.

I saw that earlier in the BCM section of the spreadsheet, and it caught my eye, but I couldn't make sense of it. It indicates that it is for configuring the battery (sorry, @Micho523 ), but I couldn't interpret what it was trying to tell me - or if necessary... ?‍♂

All you need to do is reset the BMS. I’m guessing that is what you meant when you said you reset the BCM?

There is no size configuration in the 14gen trucks. That was a 13gen thing.

The only other parameter is type, which should remain as AGM, so no changes there either.

In the 21-23 spreadsheet, the second pair of octets at 726-04-01 are listed as undefined/unused. In previous generations, this is indeed where battery size was set if I remember right.

YES! Total brain fart on my end! Thanks for catching that.

Thanks! Things are clearing up quite quickly now....

Curious to know as I’m interested in swapping my 6 month old H6 battery for an H7 AGM but why go from and H6 to H8 and not just to an H7?

Same price for an H8 vs H7 and H8 has more battery, AH, CCA, etc. If you have a non PowerBoost truck, H8 fits.

That’s great to know but based on what I’m seeing would I need to replace my alternator for a more powerful alternator to power it up or is it good to go as is. I’ve got a 23 Lariat 5.0

No, nothing needs to be done when upgrading your battery besides resetting the BMS, which you would do any time you replace the battery anyway.

How do you reset the BMS?
