You can run Windows programs on macOS
using a virtual machine like Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion, installing Windows via Boot Camp on Intel-based Macs, or using compatibility layers like Wine or Crossover. Virtual machines run Windows inside macOS, while Boot Camp allows you to boot directly into either operating system. Compatibility layers, such as Wine, and their user-friendly wrappers like Crossover, allow some Windows applications to run without a full Windows installation

If I was going to do all that, plus buy a Windows license, I might as well get a cheapo laptop or tablet that runs Windows. That way I wouldn't have to pollute my Macbook with all that other software.

Anyone know of a cheap tablet or laptop that will run FORScan? That's basically all I'd use it for.

Many cheap ones on Ebay or Amazon, with windows 7/10 running.

Also Parallels Desktop is a free addon for MacOS, allows using windows program on mac.

Right click on install file and select properties, on general screen click, unblock program, then click apply

Weird that it doesn't have that option, I just checked it again on windows 7/10/11, all had the option, screen shots were from today. (yes, I have to many laptops, Automation programmer, so I never know what I will run into in the field).

I currently have two laptops.

1. I loaded the first laptop in early November and all was fine with FORscan until a couple days ago it is now blocked by smart app.

2. A newer laptop showed up today and FORscan loads and runs but smart app is still in the evaluation stage and once it goes to on it will block it. I still have to transfer my pro license to this laptop. So I'm not seeing this as a real time protection or a Norton issue.

So IMO, I don't have a clue as to what is going on other than I miss my laptop that died.

Windows own security measures have been better than anything Norton has made in probably 15+ years. Just uninstall it and see what happens.

Agree with you but uninstalling Norton is easier said than done. That POS software is like a virus.

Try this....

Go to Settings > Windows Security > App and Browser Control.

• If On is selected, Smart App Control is running in enforcement mode.
• If Evaluation is selected, Smart App Control is running in evaluation mode.
• If Off is selected, Smart App Control is not running on this device.

You don't need smart app control if you are running legit windows and legit installed software, but turning it off is the only option if the software has been flagged.

My screen shot above is from my computer running all software without issues, but like the last line says, if you turn it off, you have to refresh windows to re-enable, personally have turned this feature off on every computer I work (100+) with and no issues.

I am still looking for other options for you, (thanks Microsoft), PM me if you still are having issues.

Microsoft has been steadily clamping down on Russian software for obvious reasons and I wouldn't be surprised if this is part of that.

Forscan is Russian just FYI.

And that's why I kept a Win10 Laptop instead of pitching it into the recycling bin. It can't be upgraded by mistake either due to its M-Core chipset, which is a win for me.

This thread makes me glad that I never downgraded my old surface Pro from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
