Yeah I hear ya 100% We don't ever want to brick our trucks and not be able to use them. I'd like to hear what FP says about using the KAM reset function that is part of the ProCal device. Maybe that is all you need.

As a side note I did use the KAM reset on a family members 2020 2.7 because the shifting was just "bad" overall but particularly the 5-4 downshift was so hard and abrupt. The KAM reset made what I would consider an unbelievable change in shifting and has been shifting very good for about 4 months now.

so you have to hook your pro cal to the obd2. turn your ignition to on (do not start truck)
find where it says module info and click. last line is your software. if it says "14C204" its stock. mine says NL3A-14C204-DYG
If it has "FP" you have the tune

when i got on it this morning i knew i didnt have it. i barely got 17psi. i was maxing out the digital boost gauge on the instrument cluster before.

So are they saying you have to buy it again?
At the moment, no.
Spoke to another gentleman today who says other guy is wrong. My tune is tied to my VIN and procal tool. I should be able to simply reinstall it…which i assumed but he told me to wait for a call back why he confirms woth thr engineers

So how was it overwritten? Is it possible the OTA PCM update that has gone out recently re-flashed the truck?

Yes, that's exactly what happened. The OTA re-wrote the tune file and any tune in a truck would have been sent back to stock calibration. Me and FP went rounds for about a month when I went to trade my truck in and the procal FP tuner lost the factory tune file. Still showed it available, but it definitely wouldn't download the stock tune. I ended up trading it in anyway and kept the tuner. What a mess it was. They finally sent a file over and reset my procal handheld, but it no longer has tunes on it and now it's just a FP procal digital gauge display on the windshield. Nice 650 dollars down the drain.

There was an ota a year ago that wiped tunes but hopefully that doesn't happen again. I'm finally past my 3/36 and even though I have an extended Ford warranty I'll be going FP or Livernois in the spring.
