FYI - During yesterdays live feed about the F-150 I submitted a question asking if Ford has any plans to update the software to allow for center console use of the rear view camera at speed. (In place of a digital rear view mirror which we should have, but I digress) They came back and said that the only way to get that to work is to be stopped or put the truck in reverse. They had no plans for expanding that at this time.

Maybe Forscan will be able to achieve this but it looks like it is not in Fords immediate plans. Pity really. At least you can use the bed cam this way but the whole point is to have your bed loaded up and then be able to flip to the digital rearview and still be able to see behind you. Digital rear view add on might be the only option at this point.

I dont see the purpose of this. There are mirrors that do the job.

I dont like idea of people driving, looking down at the screen. Just the same as a cell phone.

The rear view mirror is right there on view. No need to look down, eyes off road.

You own a truck and you cannot think of reason where you would have your rearview mirror blocked with something? Tall load, camping setup, trifold, etc.

It’s simple, in a crew cab you cannot see the load in the bed. Having the bed camera live would be a great way to monitor your load and is no more dangerous than looking at your speedometer.

edit: I guess you’re talking about the tailgate camera not the bed camera?

I find it interesting that Ford does not allow that when my 2018 Jeep Wrangler had this capability. You could hit the rear camera button at any speed and it would stay on for approximately 10 seconds with no limit on how many times you could do this. This tells me that you can do it on the Ram Trucks as they are the same manufacturer, go figure.

Many manufacturers have, and have had, a digital rearview mirror. When your vision is blocked in the normal rearview mirror you can switch to a digital view and get that rear view in the mirror through your rear camera. It is a fantastic feature and many suv's now come with it. IMO all trucks should have this ability too. Ford does let you use the bed cam at speed but if your bed is loaded, or if you install a camping top or topper that will not work either. You need to utilize the rear camera.

Anyone that puts their car or truck in reverse and uses that rear camera vision and back up vectoring lines to easily navigate out a difficult spot or winding driveway will tell you the value of this. Since all the equipment is already there how hard can it be to give us this digital rearview mirror, or at least let us use the rearview camera when the truck bed is loaded.

Much much simpler to enable rear camera while vehicle is in motion. In my opinion.

I received OTA 2.8.3 on 5/26/22 and now have all three rear camera views on the go

Yeah this does work on latest software?

While in motion you can switch between the bed camera, the hitch camera, and the rear camera. The only annoying thing is the "please check your surroundings" message that constantly shows on the rear view for some reason.

2021 Job 2 truck, and I can view mine at speed.
Do you get the warning block in the middle of the screen or is it clear? Maybe the update just fixed this and the guy on the live stream did not know it.

And 2 side mirrors? Why are you wanting to look at a screen/video when driving down the highway? The backup camera takes care of obstructed view when it is needed.....in reverse.

I agree… I’m coming from a Chevy Silverado to Ford and there’s only a few things I miss. The one I miss the most is the rear view mirror camera. No ones head in the back seat in the way or a load blocking the back window. Just a clear view of what’s behind you, plus it was a wide angle view, you could see across multiple lanes.

Other than that though, I’m pleased with my F-150. Overall I feel it’s a better truck than the last 2 Chevys I owned.

Also a 2021 Job 2 truck. Works with no warning block in the middle of the screen.

Outstanding. Maybe yesterdays update did something to address it while the truck is driving forward.
