Ford extended warranty

I bought a 25 Ford F150 Lariat about a month ago. During signing papers for financing, I was offered 4 Ford extended warranties and I bought a 6 year 60,000 warranty and it was included in purchase price. While going over my papers this week, I found no warranty information (Information on warranty I purchased, length of time, what was covered, and price)but I could prove, I called salesman and he texted me a section of warranty , I couldn't prove I have anything with what he sent and what coverage I have. This is my 1st Ford in 30 years. Been driving Rams and Chargers. I always bought extended warranty on each and received a pamphlet showing which warranty I had and what was covered. This seems odd to me. What has been your experience? What did you get? Thanks. Would also say that this information was always included in my signed papers.

They often don’t hand out brochures anymore. You should have gotten a printout showing the extended warranty. The service department should be able to print out that you have the warranty by now as it should be in the system. That said…

Go to websites of Zeigler Ford or Flood Ford or Granger Ford and print out their estimate of the same plan you got locally. I’d bet it’s ~ $1000 cheaper, and it is the exact same factory warranty also from a Ford dealer offering them significantly cheaper. Be sure to include the same options (rental car, lighting option (which you absolutely want), etc) as the websites default those off whereas your dealer defaults those on. Go back to the dealer and tell them you want to cancel their plan unless they can match it closely. It’s probably worth the money. You have to do it within a month or two for full refund.

A lot of people just don't get this. Buying this warranty at the time of purchase is not a good decision. And financing it is an even worse decision. It's much better to buy it in 3 years when you know you want to keep the truck.

True you should wait until you know you’re keeping the truck. On the other hand the longer you wait every year the price will increase on the ESP warranty so keep that in mind also.

If you bought a Genuine Ford ESP you should receive the attached document with the full terms and conditions of your VIN-specific ESP. Note this is not a 'brochure', it's your actual ESP contract with Ford.

It's quite possible that you were 'tricked' into buying an other-than-Genuine-Ford product (an all-too-common dealer maneuver resulting in higher profit to them and inferior coverage for you).

If you did not get a Genuine Ford ESP, suggest you immediately contact the dealer and seek a cancellation with refund, then shop for the real McCoy from the sources mentioned above (Granger, Flood, etc). Most states have laws allowing no-penalty cancellation of such warranties for a limited period after purchase, time is of the essence, do not delay. It's quite likely you will have to visit the dealer face-to-face to sign a cancellation document to get this done timely.

Note that because you rolled the 'warranty' purchase into your truck financing it is quite likely that the 'refund' amount will be credited to the financed amount (reducing your principal balance), not a cash refund.

You can actually access your own VIN with a 72 hour subscription for about $28

As stated by others, I don't recommend purchasing such coverage until you are certain you will be keeping the vehicle. I also wouldn't finance it in the auto loan since if you purchase it yourself, you KNOW what you paid and you get reimbursed personally if you trade/sell the vehicle while it is still covered. (Prorated)

Too late for that in this case, but not a big deal as long as you got a fair price and it is Ford's ESP.

It's also true that what you describe is really closer to just extending the bumper to bumper 3/36 to 5/60.

If your dealer claims that your full contract is 'in the mail', politely demand that they print out that page from their system as proof of purchasing a Genuine Ford ESP.

A 'brochure' is not proof of purchase.

I get the logic of waiting until the end of 3 years to see if you are going to keep the vehicle, but has anyone done the math to see how much more the same warranty would be then as opposed to getting it when you have, say 3000 miles on it?

Not necessarily 3 years, but rather just before 1 year is up.

Pricing is the same on day 364 as day 1, except for ESP price increases across the board.

I'm not gonna tell anyone they should or shouldn't do an ESP, or from who but all ESPs are bets with insurance companies and they have staffs of lawyers, data scientists and actuaries, setting them up to profit.

A modest model, would be to profit from the "Float". That is, they get your money today, expecting to pay every penny back to you in time but in the mean time, have invested it and get to keep those profits. Thats why it is cheaper to buy it earlier. They have more time to secure the profit they need.

I have no idea if Ford's model is modest, or aggressive but in any case, you're the pigeon at the poker table.
