Nice! Most of my trucks life will be spent on the island (and other islands) - really looking forward to exploring further off the beaten path and exploring out beyond Campbell River.
north of campbell river is where the good offroading is, everything south is gated off. the beauty of the island compared to Alberta where i work is the roads are usually stock friendly, the mud holes have bottoms haha. Last summer we went out to san josef bay for a day hike. well worth the trip. However i do recomend a trip to your local communications store that specializes in VHF radios and getting one with resource channels programmed in, loggers will run you off the road up there. especially the off highway guys in the old as dirt HAYS trucks.

So! After over 2 yrs of searching, researching, asking questions, used vs new, Silverado vs F150, I made the commitment: flew an hour out to Vernon BC to pick up a new truck from Watkins Motors. (Who is apparently the oldest ford dealership in Canada).

Overall experience was good - at this point, I knew what we wanted (4x4, SCREW, 360 camera, tailgate step), what we didn’t (moonroof), and what I was blasé on (FX4, appearance pkg). I actually got nearly 3k off msrp - not like the old days, I guess, but better than I’ve seen over the last few years. Also got 1.5% financing -I had almost pulled trigger on a used one that was around $46k but the 8% financing and 100k km mileage was just too much for me.

Drive back was great - if you know that area, it’s a gorgeous slice of the world and I wasn’t in a rush. For nearly 100km I was behind a semi on a single-lane road going 70-80kmh - got mileage over 23mpg early on! The climbs out of Kamloops and Merritt killed it then it settled out at 22.2mpg for a 470km (300mi) trip. Light foot, empty truck, Eco mode: probably never going to be this good again, lol!

Thanks for the advice! It’s I likely we would head on those roads outside of a weekend but still good to know! San Josef is hella far, haha! How long did that take you? Those are definitely goals tho…

Took us about 2 hours to get to the parking lot at the trail head, then a 45 minute easy hike in to the main beach.

Nice truck and congrats! Also have a 22 XLT 5.0. Not my first F150 but first 5.0 and so far so good. Had a 2014 3.5 EB and 2019 2.7EB before this one, MPG is right in the middle but can't beat that Coyote sound when you push down the skinny pedal! Enjoy

Nice! Looks like a 7-hr drive for me, lol! But definitely hoping to make a 'north island' trip a reality this summer/fall.

I forgot where we left from in my last post haha, 2 hrs from port macneil on a fairly busy logging road. If you have a tent the first beach is fairly easy to drag a wagon to. Makes for a nice weekend trip. We stayed for a week at a campground in alertbay. Nice full service campground there
