I was driving my 2021 F150 FX4 Powerboost in some snow last week. We got about 4 inches of thick wet snow that only lasted a day. I started to notice a dragging sound and found that the felt shield transmission cover was hanging down and waterlogged. The truck only has 20k miles on it and is primarily used to go to and from, which is a highway trip and to the hardware store. It has never been off road or abused in any way. I am in my 40s and baby it.

The dealer said that they couldn't repair it and that even though I was under factory warranty, and had the Platinum ford Extended warranty, they wouldn't cover this item and to replace it was $176.

Does this sound right?

Interesting. The dealer had replaced my oil 9 days before this happened.

I went to pick up the truck, which they did Nothing to and was told I needed to pay a $139 diagnostic fee. I asked the girl what they diagnosed since the part was gone. She said they drove it to see if there was a scraping sound from anything dragging. I told her once again it had fallen down and I had removed it. She then said she would waive the fee. LMAO

My only concern was that there is a sensor and wire fully exposed now. Anything you hit is going to rip that off.

My Ram has steel skid plates and nothing too delicate underneath it that isn't protected.

I drove my 2018 for three years without one and no problems and now 2 years on the 2021 and nothing. I haven't noticed any wires hanging.

Mine was dragging after our first big snow of the season in mid December. I called the dealer and they said they would put a new one on under warranty at my next oil change. I need to make an appointment for that next week so we’ll see how that goes.

Lazy lube techs are the main cause of that. It’s supposed to be taken off completely, not just spun out of the way with 1 bolt left in.

I actually think red squirrels might have chewed part of mine and then the snow at the end of my driveway from the plow finished it off. Damn things destroyed the hood insulation on my wife’s Odyssey. Improper removal for oil changes may be a possibility but here in Eastern Ontario I think backing through deep snow takes out more of them.

No snow down here but we constantly had complaints at my old shop for them breaking at the back screws. The lube techs would leave one bolt in and just let it hang. Once or twice doing that is enough to break the material.
